  • Holier than thou ?

I was in the pit area of the 3D Championship competition yesterday (Sat 29-Sept), and witness an "interesting" little incident.

It was during Dave Fishers freestyle flight using the new Avro helicopter. A certain, well known hack (JT, and one of his collegues ?) from the MHW magazine was stood in front of the flight line, taking pictures, when he was asked, along with a few other people guilty people, to step back a little (about 3 feet) by one of the safety marshals. JT obviously made some comment about taking pictures, as he pointed to his camera, the marshal said he could even move across to the middle of the flight line for a better view, as long as he stayed behind the flight line, JT choose to ignore the request, and continued to take photos. Everyone else moved back to the position requested by the marshal.

At the end of the Dave's flight, the marshal suggested that JT should leave the pits. . . . . which he and his "oppo" did, in fact they stormed off. . . . . . . . I never saw them again, so maybe they "left the building"

Why am I posting this. . . . . . .well for the first time in years I might buy the next edition of MHW, just to see what JT's spin on the circumstances is

At the end of the day safety is safety and the marshal was right and if that guy got hurt then the marshal would get done for not doing hes job, so its hes balls on the line.

fair play too the marshal safety is paramount at these events too keep them going,if something happened the sport would get way too much bad press that it would put people off getting into our hobby that is growing very fast
if said guy cant get the pics he wants for the magazine with the camera setup he has then he needs a better camera or at least a better lens so he can get decent images from a safe distance you do not need too be 2 ft away too get decent images

Actually, I have some difficulty believing this story.

JT turning up at a UK helicopter event?

          Shome mishtake, surely!

          ;-)

I am curious, does anyone have any stats or reports about the growth rate of the hobby?

Funnily enough, a very similar situation happened again today

The pilot of the above Avro (DF) got a tad pi$$ed off when the organiser of the event descided it would be better to put CSM's demostration set-up, which was basically a strapped down heli, into the pit area, and clear it of personell over lunch. So that CSM could give the demo in relative safety.

                Said Avro pilot was seen storming off, saying "you're in charge, whatever . . . . . . "

Seems like prima donna's are rife in our hobby

witnessed said problem with photographers. Richard Morris and Jon Tanner.
Basically you do what the flight marshal says FULL STOP not act like prima-donas and threaten the marshal with not putting the 3D championship in the magazine. They were indeed offered the entire center area of the field where the judges were sat to take pictures.....and Dave was getting very close with that AVRO which was why they were asked to move in the first place.

I believe someone called them a pair of arseholes as they left, which I found highly amusing as did a few others.

at the risk of being rather unPC... i think that just about describes them. having seen how they do stuff from the other side and read some of the crap that the mag in general comes out with and the state of the review models i stopped buying it.

im getting really sick of the people in this sport that think they can do what the want just because of the event they organise or the maganzine they run. when challenged they then use the power in their own area as leverage.

Diva's like ja lo get away with it because they are young pretty women....
