  • Weight in the nose

To use the "anti taco" bat tray to best effect on my 550 I need yo push the packs up the tray as far as they will go. With the 700 tail fin the heli is alread tail heavy, with the packs at the back of the tray it's even worse. It takes 94g of weight in the front of the canopy to balance the heli out again. I'm not bothered about the extra weight as the 550 has a fantastic power to weight ratio. It was not much of a issue before as I was not flying upside down and it could be trimmed out. As we all know that will not work for inverted flight.

For the 94g I used nuts and elec tape from my toolbox. Whats the best thing to use for weight in the nose. Lead and hot glue would be best but where do get lead grains from?

personally i would not add weight, there must be a way where you can move your rx or something else to offset the weight?

yeah tyre fitters probably best, they have thousands of 5g and 10g weights, all with convenient sticky back tape on it thats really really strong. Dont stick them to anything you plan to ever get them off of.

          A bigger battery perhaps?

I have a nose heavy model which is the better of the two situations. I could just ignore it and carry on using cheap Turnigy batteries. If I could find some batteries with similar capacity but lighter weight I would end up with a properly balanced model at the lightest flying weight. I am only looking for a couple of ounces and I found that saving with either Align or Optipower. The downside is packs that cost £65 to £70 instead of £30.

I think that if I get rid of the Align ESC (on side frame just behind the motor) and replace it with an Ice2 80HV that will be placed under the bat tray. I can then install a BEC Pro on the side frame just in front of the motor. My only concern is the length of the cables to the 3GX placed on the Gyro tray above the tail boom. The BEC and the ESC should just about get me the correct cog. Another bonus is if I decide to go 12S and swing 550 blades I know the ESC will be up to it.
