  • How long does super glue take to dry?

So i broke the skids on my MCPX and now cant really fly it (not off the ground anyway)

Ive tried supergluing them back, but the glue isnt drying. Honestly - Ive never seen anything like it.

Two hours now ive had it braced in the right position and still not a hint of bond. The glue is completely liquid.

I know the glue works coz i touched it earlier and then rubbed my fingers together - it stuck (im only using a tiny bit of CA so i could pull my fingers apart again safely)

Do they make these things out of "anti glue" plastic or something? Anyone else glued the skids on these thing and know what to use?

maybe you need to 'key' the surfaces, give the ca something to grip

CA needs the joints to be well pushed together to bond. If they won't bond you could try making a "splint" and gluing that across the break, or weld the join with a heated needle.

They are made of delrin, and very little sticks to delrin. Superglue doesn't, as you found out.

Epoxy is the only readily available thing that will half hold, but even that won't grip well, so you'll need to "jacket" the break in epoxy. Or you can melt it together as above.

I'd use some nylon strips to help strengthen them as well, as said above.

or use some fine black heat shrink over the break if its in the middle of a section

Superglue comes in different types and the setting time is different for each. The amount of superglue is critical. Too much will take a long time. I don't know if your skids are the same as the msr, but I have found a way to fix msr skids with a glue called bostik, I think. It was a long time ago and I have forgotten exactly what I did. The repair does work very well and I can take a picture and describe the process if you want. In general I think I did not rely on glueing to the plastic, but placing a blob around something like a join of three struts, so that they were held together by the glue itself, rather than by the glue sticking to the plastic. It is easier to buy a new one, but if they are not available, or you like fixing things for almost nothing it can be done.

Don't forget activator if you use superglue. Superglue on its own often isn't that great.

Another tip for this type of repair is to use thin cotton/polyester thread apply some ca and wrap the join with the thread, then a little more glue, then activator to force the ca to cure. You get a very strong joint.

I got the heatshrink actually, that same pack, but for a completely unrelated problem.

The issue here is that the break is just where the front skid joins the battery holder, so theres nothing to heatshrink, or blob glue onto really.

I left it overnight and the superglue had dried, but fell off straight away. I burned and melted it together - that worked, until i took the battery out and snapped it again. Doh!
