        You'll appreciate this

Allegedly the German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They, it is alleged, not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.
Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway."
Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark,... and I didn't land."
        Always makes me laugh
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

A now Chf. Tech. RAF friend of mine was 'seeing off' a Pilot Officer in a training Slingsby Firefly. The Pilot Officer was doing his aircraft walkaround, and grabbed an aileron, wiggled it about, and noticed with surprise that the other aileron moved in opposite sympathy. His words to my friend? "When I move this FLAP the other one moves too. Is that right?"

That guy is now probably flying Tornado's or Typhoon. Makes you think!

              Cheers - Rob.

Some of you may remember Nichols and the other chap who were shot down during the gulf war (Tornado down crew) ?
I met one of the flight officers in their squadron a few years later and got talking about that incident.... It was another Andy McNab .... i.e. No one in the squadron was surprised it was them as apparently they had 4 left feet between them. Always cocking up and getting it wrong.
Same with andy McNab.... now a huge author but reading all the other books around Bravo TWO ZERO he was another one that screwed the pooch and didn't listen......alledgedly.

An ex girlfriend of mine used to date that Nicholls character right before she went out with me lol

He now commentates on airshows, doesn't he?

Admittedly, it was a lucky shot that brought them down.
