I was in a paint shop the other day and they had a huge tub of handwipes for paint and grease, they were on special offer, may have to pop back and take a look.
some excellent tips there.

In the shooting world we have a spray on cleaner..... doens't harm metal or plastics and you basically hose the gun and trigger mechanisms down with it and it washes off crap, gun, residue, grease etc. and leaves a very thin lubricant and protection on the gun....maybe try that ?
