  • Clubs in Dorset and Somerset ??

Just wondering if anyone know of any clubs in Somerset and Dorset more specific to heli's ?

Don't care about the price, as long as its a nice bunch of guys, but i do like the idea of events throughout the year, so, fun days, training days etc.

    Thanks

    Sam

    Dorset Model Helicopter Club Poole

Located a few miles from Poole in Dorset

Friendly club, mainly helicopters, but a few of us tinker with fixed wing... mainly just for a laugh in better weather!

Fly all year round varying levels of expertise when it comes to flying, but most know how to setup heli's etc

Have a look at the website and see if it might suit your needs

There used to be a very strong heli club in Weymouth, but I'm not sure if it still exists. There are also two clubs that fly on Merryfield, I believe. Although at least one of them is primarily fixed-wing scale, I believe there are a number of active heli flyers there.

No unfortunately Merryfield is primarily fixed-wing scale, there are two clubs, the Ilminster flying club and the royal navy club. The Ilminster club are having a huge waiting time and like I said there only fixed-wing. Actually I am the only one flying rotary wing there, but not very often.
I am a club member to a fantastic club in Taunton ( Webster flyers ) and there are mixed flyers ie helis and f/w or lot's club members fly both.
If it's not too far from you come down and say hi...... we are usually there on Sat and Sun afternoon depending the weather.

I used to fly there in the mid to late 60s. I used to cycle up from Taunton with a single-channel model in a duffle bag on my back! Back in those days, the airfield was pretty much abandoned, and you could just walk on to it from the lanes around the back. Last time I went there a couple of years back, it was all surrounded by barbed wire and security!

Does Brian Taylor still fly there? Haven't seen him since about 1968, though I did bump into Dave Bailey at the SWMEE a couple of years back!

The Weymouth club doesn't exist anymore after issues with our flying site and a sudden loss of interest in people rejoining
