Mode 1 is Right stick - throttle & ailerons; Left stick - elevator & rudder; is reasonably logical for Planks.
Mode 2 is Right stick - elevator & Ailerons; Left stick - throttle & rudder: logical for helis but not so much for planks.
This is also modes 3 & 4, which are other combinations that I can't remember. I fly mode 2 for helis and planks and have tried mode 1 for planks bit couldn't get on with it!
Just like pinching or thumbing, there is no best choice but if you are new to the hobby I would recommend mode 2 as then most would be flying the same way and could help you better.
