  • Leaving lipo's charged

Does leaving lipo's charged at their full capacity for a few days damage them?

I've been meaning to maiden my outrage fusion 50 this week but unfortunately dodgy servo's and the weather have kept it grounded. The 6s 3500ma optipower packs have been fully charged for roughly 4 days now and i heard that this can damage them?

    anyone know? cheers

4 days will be fine but if you are not going to use them in the next couple of days discharge them no point in ageing them they become week if left to long

I doubt it but on the ame line, is it bad to leave batteries on the charger even when they've finished charging.

Discharge them to 50% of their capacity ,you can then leave them like that for up to 2 mths before they will need a charge again..

It's not recommended to leave the cells fully charged but I've ended up leaving them for up to 5 days fully charged and so far had no ill effects.

Leaving packs fully charged for extended periods of time increases ther IR meaning less power however I've left packs charged for my 550 for a couple of weeks and they still work fine with good IR. Maybe I will buy two cheap packs and keep one fully charged and the other at storage charge Would be interesting to see the change in IR over time.

A week or two will be fine, but over a week best to discharge them to storage charge really.

I tend to leave charged for a couple of weeks max but have been known to leave them upto 6 once. Never showed any signs of damage as far as I can tell

If its longer than a week, I stick them on a storage charge.

I have 3s 2200mah that have been charged for most of the year with no signs of any problems! kept in a alloy trex450 case under the stairs,so they are at a constant temp'.I always recharge after flying so they are ready for the next session, recently I have used storage charge and found no difference to performance afterwards

It won't just damage them like that - it's just that they degrade faster when full, and when warm. They will degrade faster if stored full but it's still not that fast. It's why they don't come fully charged.

I always leave my packs charged, (for months) some of them are almost 2 years old and they still fly well 5 mintues on my 450.

I do however discharge my logo 500 battery as it cost so much

Its worked for me but i try not to leave them fully charged for more than a week!! :-)
