is the battery safe ?

after taking off the blue wrapping to try fit it in my align starter i noticed a dark dent on the white plastic so i peeled it off and it looks like there is a tiny hole what as made when it crashed i have not touched this battery in over 2 weeks with a charger wold it be wise to get rid of the battery ? plus i know that lipos can release toxic fumes and stuff will this start to do so ?

i havent noticed any strong smells or smoke coming from it and it was about half way through the flight and can you tell when they are leaking gasses

Chances are it's not leaking, they have an unusual sweet smell when they are. If it were to vent it may be a bit more obvious - thick putrid smoke and possibly flames. Leaking and venting are more likely when the cells are charged, whereas a fully discharged cell is pretty much dead.

how do i get rid of lipo batteries then ?

Big stick with a nail in it.
Clobber the battery a few times, (even more fun if its partial or fully charged) stand back & remember what it was like to be a boy again. You'll never have to wonder what the smell is like again either!
Leave it to die a slow & painful death for say a week in salt water, then bin it with the usual rubbish.

I would suggest using a 12v car bulb to discharge it slowly somewhere safe outside. Salt water corrodes the battery before it gets to fully discharge.

Either that or do I what I do and just leave it under a ceramic pot outside to self-discharge over the year, doesn't take long with duff batteries.

thanks laurence think i will do that dont think my mum will be happy with me letting a lipo go up in smoke in the back garden even tho it sounds a lot of fun :P
