  • MSH Protos Tail Blades

    Hi,

After having tried what must be the worst tail blades on my protos (I don't know what make they were, but after skimming the grass a bit they both snapped right off their bases), I got 3 pairs of the Align trex 500 Plastic ones, which seemed to work fine on my old trex 500 while I had it:

    H50084 Tail Rotor Blade White

However, they would not fit in the tail blade grips, which are upgraded aluminium ones (see pics below).

Please could someone recommend me some tail blades that will fit them? Preferably around £5 a pair.

    Thanks

Try the similar sized KBDD ones.

Thanks - just to make things clear, they do fit, but the screw won't go through, as the blade 'won't go in far enough' for the holes to align.

You can just sand the root of the blade slightly - its due to the thrusted bearing setup.... It was originally designed with two radials, but later they released the thrusted setup which reduced the room available for blades slightly.

If you sand down the base of the blade so it clears and then just check balance then they'll be fine. I think the KBDD'S would need slight sanding too but I'm not sure... You can check on Helifreak - they have a great forum for the protos.

Was it the MSH ones that shattered? If so it's because they were the 3K blades which are very rigid but a bit brittle (designed to fly well rather than crash well!)... You can also get the standard MSH blades which will fit without mods and are more flexible... Very cheap so you could always give them a go.

Thanks - at least I wont need to buy some more for a while with 5 pairs

Yes it was the msh blades - they didnt shatter - just completely snapped off at the base.

How are you getting on with it, snapped tail blades aside?

Im not really sure yet - the HC3SX came a week or so ago, and I only got it fitted on Sunday. The setup takes ages, and the wiring is confusing, and when I tried to hover it (in my garden) it lent backwards and skimmed the grass - I'm going to go through the HC setup more carefully tomorrow and read up on how to stop it leaning back - maybe it's the servos not being centred properly? I'll let you know tomorrow when I try again

                How's the trex getting on?

Have you levelled the swash plate?

The 500 is in bits in the cupboard... I'll probably get the scale body next month and then start building!

It looked pretty level so i didn't, but that's probably what it was. I'll do that now

Ok I've tried edge blades, which wont fit, and also the protos kbdd blades (protos root), and they fit but are not free to move (swivel) due to the edges hitting against the inside nut - is this ok?

                      Thanks

Like I said, just take a small file and trim down the root of the blade a little until the blades fit freely...

Just be sure to balance the blades afterwards to make sure you've taken off an even amount of material.
