  • Battery security a Warning !!!!

I thought it was time to put up a post about this as in just a couple of weeks 3 models have gone in at my club due to the radio pack coming unplugged and in at least two cases ejecting from the model.

In all three cases the model was a t Rex 700 nitro , so maybe it's something to do with the sloping front tray ?!

So my advice is what I always do a Velcro pad properly bonded to the tray that is at least the same size as the battery , and at least two Velcro tapes, I use the pull through type used for securing flight packs.

Oddly all three cases were respected long term pilots branching in to 3D , complacency maybe?
A real shame though as three nice helis died , so strap those flight packs down !!!!!
    You have been warned !

I'd also recommend the scorpion straps to hold batteries in. They have a rubbery coating so really grip the packs so they can't move. A few people who have seen mine have gone out and bought them.

I've always used the align velcro pads that came with the 450 and possibly the 600 to stop the battery sliding, and then a velcro strap to keep it all together. I also mount the batteries under the radio tray which gives plenty of space to secure it all.

Velcro by Velcro is the best stuff to use on the model and as Pete says I have found the Scorpion and Mikado straps to be by far the better

+1 to this, if you have both proper Velcro brand Velcro under, and a anti-slip strap on top a little flight pack isn't going anywhere.

Only time a battery came out of my heli was after a severe bump that detached the canopy and broke all sorts of bits including the front radio tray...then I was entertained as my chicken dancing Heli crawled towards the lipo with steadily shortening blades in a seeming attempt to chop the lipo in half.... Which would have been a fitting end to the day

Mind you I've had 2x 6S 3500mAh packs (joined together) slide out with Velcro brand Velcro underneath it and 2x anti-slip straps! With 3 straps it's been ok since...

While inverted my battery decided to leave the heli and was chopped in half by the blades, creating a spectacular fire ball..... The cries of throttle hold from the pitts did little to help. Throttle hold without battery does not as my audience thought change any of the laws of physics....

On the button Rachel. One thing I would add to that is to check the hold of the Velcro regularly. I use branded Velcro strips on lipo and tray plus straps, always very secure.Yesterday I noticed the strap no longer held to itself and the lipo strips weren't as tightlly held as usual, them little hooks wear out eventually so keep that in mind also.
