  • Do you like upgrading/modifying your heli?

Just browsing through quick uks website and was surprised to see pages and pages of upgrades for trex 600s. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on upgrades, do they annoy you as you expect the heli to be complete and in no way need an upgrading or do they excite you knowing you can make it fly better/look better/be safer.

I'm torn between the two to be honest, yes I like bling but having to replace bits on helis that are known to break/wear quickly/make it fly better sometimes gets on my wick

    What are your thoughts?

I used to bling everything for the sake of it now I only upgrade mostly if it's needed

      Erm.. Sort of.

I like the gadgets more tbh. I like the Vbar as it comes with lots of things I can fiddle with if I want to, I want the Switchglo instead of a £5 glow starter etc

I really dislike it. If I see a lot of upgrades being released for a kit, I start thinking that there is something wrong with this kit (and it's usually true).
I bought an upgraded swashplate for my mcpx, because stock one was sloppy rubbish. I am going to buy metal bearing blocks for my 250 because, well plastic ones are rubbish.
I like to fly not to tinker, so I buy one or two pieces of gear, the best quality I can afford and use it until it breaks then replace with newer model (I have the same thing with guitar playing and my other hobbies).

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Apart from going FBL on the nitros, I only bling the parts I've broken. When you crash, look at the options.
TBH I do like gadets as well.

For me it varies a lot. On the Trex500 for example, it just didn't seem to need anything to make it fly
better except for the stock tail blades. Once a heli flies like I want it I tend to leave it alone but
sometimes there are little blingy things that are nice to have, look good, are maybe sturdier than
            the stock part etc.

With the Trex 450SE it was a nearly endless quest to get it to fly better and then I got the Beam
and it's great in stock form so I haven't touched it.

With older helis like the Robbes they have great qualities that I don't want to lose but
I want some things brought up to a bit more modern specs so it's a challenge and the
process has led me to learn a lot more about heli physics and I do like that side of
it sometimes (but not endless tweaking, I like to arrive at a point I'm happy with and
            then just fly).

I have no issue with upgrading parts if they work better. My 550V1 did not come with canopy stand-offs so I fitted the 600N parts. Not a true upgrade but an upgrade never-the-less as it did not come stock. The anti taco Alu bat tray is a must as it will protect the bat more than the stanard part. I don't think I have any spare cash left for bling so I'll just go for the functional upgrades.

The same here i used to upgrade eveything on my 450's but know ive learnt a few lessons from doing so, it spends £'s really quick, more expensive when ya crash and sometimes it only makes the heli look good and not fly any better. So know i only get upgrades when they are nessecary to make the heli peform better or when the old parts ware out i replace them with upgrades,
i go by the motto 'if its not broken dont fix it'!! But i obviously replace before a part breaks (when its worn out) And also i go by if it fly well dont change it!!
