  • Blade mCPX scale Huey build

Before I start, I'd just like to say that this project has been inspired by Badfrog on the HF site, thanks to him I'm now doing my own.

I have posted this on the mCPX section but thought others may like to take a look so here it is

For a few months I have been thinking about using the mcpx for a scale project and lately have been doing a lot of research which kit to use, military or civilian.

Well, I made the decision and ordered Revell 1:48 Huey Hog kit,

kit arrived and I spent an hour preparing the mcpx, taking boom and tail rotor off, removing blades etc ready for 1st fit...not much left!!!

    IMAG0183.jpg

2 fuselage halves put together to gauge the amount of room the 'mechanics' need and where needs trimming and by how much.
Clearance has been made, quite a large part of the roof had to be removed.

    IMAG0185.jpg

After a bit of trial and error, fitting, marking, trimming, re-fitting, mechanics fitted in the fuselage.
Main rotor blade from kit used to make a 'plank' on the fuselage floor, two holes drilled through to fix mechanics to floor, 2 bolts through fuselage into landing skid holes

    IMAG0187.jpg

Placed 2 halves together, removed the lug on the end of the tail and drilled a hole to attach the tail rotor, I removed tail boom and cut c.25mm piece of rod off to glue to tail rotor case, fed wires through the hole for the boom and into fuselage.

heli is 90% finished, painted and decals fitted.

I've seen a couple of these builds and the nose and windscreen are removable to allow battery changing. I decided to glue in place and have the roof detachable which allows me to fit batteries and also undo 2 screws under the body and the whole mechanics can be removed easily.

I made a mould to cover the inerds which follows the line of the original canopy roof, just need to devize a method of making the roof detachable and add the rocket pods and machine guns

Any thoughts or comments would be very welcomed

They dont call it the Heavy Hog for nothing!!! Stock is around 40g, I would guess she's around 65g

I have shaved a little off the inside of the fuselage and have left out all the cabin and cockpit parts so she's about as light as I can get it

Hopefully get to maiden this week, soon as my 3-in-1 board is fixed

                      that would work well
or velcro to keep weight down

I've weighed the Huey with battery in and canopy on before any weight reduction and she's 62g

Maybe I can get her down to 55 ish without sacrificing strength
