Back when I was buggy racing a friend had an old Shuttle and that got me interested but it wasn't until much later in life I was able to afford helis and it was the TV Program supemodels presented by mark found when they built HMS fearless with an Ikarus Piccolo RC heli that got me into it, that was Circa 2001.

I was born in to it! My dad was mad about flying (planks) and had his own designs that he used to kit and sell. I don't remember learning to fly I've just always been able to do it however I've only just started flying helis! I enjoy flying planks 3d but every time I see a Heli fly 3D it blows me away!! I watched Bob johnson fly at my show years ago and the thought of helis never left me! Now I don't own any planks! Well I still have a panic because I fly with the Oxford panic display team!

About 25 years ago, when I was at the Airfix stage (roughly 11 or 12) my LHS had RC Helis on display upstairs, I asked about them but the guy behind the counter refused to sell me one, "to difficult, expensive, dangrous" etc. I was a bit put out at the time but something about that conversation made me realise he was trying to do me a favor.

When it was sugested to me a few years ago to get a hobby that little kid in me said "get a heli" so I did and you know what, that guy in the LHS 25 years ago was right, but it is too late now I appear to be hooked.

I was just about to buy a 1/5th scale rc truck (maverick backout) and while watching youtube vids of it,i came across a vid of a turbine airwolf being flown. The rest is a very miserable looking bank account...

A friend of mines father had one, about 25 years ago. Don't think he ever flew it but it looked awesome. So off I went, as a 12 year old to the LHS in Elmers End where, much like Procol above, the guy refused to sell me one.
So I had a Tamiya Sandscorcher, Tamiya Hilux Toyota 4WD and a few other wheeled things.

Then fast forward to 2010, whilst browsing ebay I saw a Silverlit UFU - basically looks a bit like the ARDrone but is totally shite, with a mechanical spinny gyro. After that smashed to pieces on its maiden I decided to increase the pain and got a King II. That was shite too but did get me hovering around in the brief periods between smashing it into the ground.

My 2 regrets are, the cost - ouch, although not much these days, and that I didn't get into it a long time ago!
Still, in the last year and a half I've had (or still have)
UFO, King II, 450SE clone, 600ESP, 450 Pro, MSR, MCPX, Recycloquad, Spitfire and a Edge 540 foamy so I guess there's no escape now!

                        Recycloquad (tm)

I had given up flying planes many, many years ago, when the only radio's were single channel reed and if they still worked after launch only really helped to reduce the walk required to recover the aircraft. Then in 2009 I saw the LMA advertised at Cosford and I managed to convince my wife it was a fashion show for large models (or should that have been a showcase for RC aeroplanes?). Anyway we took our camper for a long weekends camping there and after she finally forgave me but on the Friday evening everyone seemed to be flying 450's, some in scale bodies and some as P&B. Well Saturday morning arrived and one of the stalls was selling RTF heli's, so one was purchased as a Christmas present for me and they had sold their entire stock by lunch time!. The rest as they say is history but the P Esky King 2 still survives to this day but is somewhat 'modified' now.

I have always since ages of 5-6 been mad on aircraft,i started as i guess most ppl plasic models all over my bed room ceiling then battery plane/helis that hooks to fishing wire and swing around room then as i got older i got more and more techicly minded and moved onto r/c stuff cars/trucks nicad batts then nitro's then finally took the last step into full r/c helis.

Well, i have to blame my dad.lol. As a kid I would always see his concept 30 on the front room table. I would secretly go turn it on and play with the remote, getting the servos to move around, though I never saw him fly it!lol. About 10 years after that, there was a programme on sky all about radio controlled stuff. I was watching it with my dad, and saw Trevor's dad on it from midlands helis, flying a helicopter. As soon as I saw that, i made my dad get his concept out of the loft and we took a trip down to midlands (old shop) to get it serviced. Came back with a hoverfly, and I learnt how to fly on that thing. Yes it was attached to a string!
