  • wobbles

just took my 450 out for test flight after some repairs, it still seems to wobble and vibrate even a few feet of the ground,, i have checked the tracking of the blades although not perfect they seem ok, after reading the thread on static tracking i got thinking about a simular set up with regards to the grub screws on the main shaft. Do you guys think this needs to be looked at and if so how do i ensure the shaft is set perfectly upright........

not sure how advanced you are.

    things to check

    Main shaft straight and level.
Fly bar of equal lengths and paddles aligned (no pun intended )
blades are ok balanced (pretty mucg all blades are now balanced)
    Head speed high enough.

Could be a few more I haven't thought of but htese are the basics....Im assuming this is a flybarred heli.

thanks for your reply Swale, main shaft is straight checked by rolling on a glass top, ive stripped the head off now and trying to check if it is running perpendicular when spooled up every thing else i check as i put things back, you mean head spead are you referring to the amount of throttle im adding via the stick.

Blade tracking out? Feathering shaft? either of these will give you a wobble

I think the words after a crash might be the problem. There are so many things that can go wrong and screw things up. problem. It is often very difficult to find faults. Usually flybar, feathering shaft and mainshaft sort things out. It is also very easy to miss something obvious, like a part that hasn't been put back or something slightly bent. Getting someone more experienced or just another opinion is often useful. Buying another heli works well. I've just done this to get some cheap spares. It then allows you to swop things over until you find the faulty part. At least you have a relatively nice fault that doesn't destroy the heli at random times.

You could takes some photos and a video and someone might recognize the fault from the noise it makes. We can do Computer Analysis on the noises and get some deiagnostic info. I'd buy a second head.

Very hard to say definitively, as the guys already mentioned, it could be one or a number of things.... and pics/vids could help here.

I'll add another possibility- bent headblock (main rotor housing).
