  • The price of Lipo's

I have only been into electric helicopters for a couple of years so I can't go back to far regarding the price of lipo's, so do you think lipo's will rise or fall regarding price, as electric becomes even more popular.
I am hoping that lipo prices will fall..because £109 for a voltz 6s 5100 mah battery is taking the Pi

What do you think will happen in future regarding prices?

In fairness £109 is prety cheap compared to what we were paying 5 years ago for far inferior products.
I was paying £130 for 6s 3200mah flightpowers back then & they werent that great.
I buy turnigy 6s 5000mah lipos for my fusion 50 from hongkong for around £70 each & if you select land mail u very rarely get charged any import duty.

      a few years ago
      flight power 3s2p 4500 £125
and now consider that the heli was running 6 cell (2x 3cell in series)
so that was £250 in lipo's in the air at once
the price is coming down but not fast enough

Prices have dropped considerably over the last three years . When I had my trex 500 about two and half years ago a 6s 2650 mAh flightpower battery was £109 ish which was expensive but you needed four for a good days flying cycling them through etc ! Now for the same money you can buy a 5000 6s pack with brilliant performance and warranty too which is brilliant value for money ! it's an expensive hobby and if you can't except that there's always fishing I guess lol !

They will of course get cheaper and better with it,which is great as the cheap ones quality will just keep improving.

The absolute most i currently pay for a 6s 5000 pack which are the biggest size i use is around £65 and i would never pay any more for one, just over two years ago i paid £200 for a Revo one, must have wanted my head testing.

I think prices will continue to fall as I'm sure a new battery tech is not far away. The push is needed worldwide.

I'd guess fall, as they become more 'mass market' in other applications.

I'd heard that the reason the CellPro chargers were so sophisticated, was that the technology was common with other mainstream applications (eg electric vehicles.)

£109 for a voltz pack is expensive - Voltz packs are pretty awefull!
£109 for a good pack is such as the OptiPower/Thunder Power is very good. I dont think the prices will drop much more at all now, certainly as most the cost I expect is in the time taken matching cells and producing good quality products/branding. I'm sure the cost of lithium and the other battery contents will be shooting up as with everything else shortly. Performance will likely keep getting beter and better though

I think the Voltz packs are ok as Ive had mine for 6 months now and there still performing well but this is on a 10s setup in my Logo. I have recently just brought some Thunder Power 5000 6s for my TDR.
However I did run some Turnigies for a while and never had a problem with them, but prior to that I brought some cheap lipo's off ebay from Hong Kong which lasted about 20 flights before they just packed up all together. So you only get what you pay for !

Voltz dont come with any sort of guarentee (not a useable one anyway) and have seen/heard of plenty go bad. For a 6s 5100 pack from midland theyre £140 for the 45C and £180 for the 65C packs! It just doesnt make sense why people would buy them when a superior product with far superior warentee and service is offered for £109 from OptiPower. People constantly complain about the prices - but its actually not all that bad! When you will happily fly a 90 size and and pay almost £100 for a set of blades that might not last a few flights then batteries fit in pretty well in the scheme of things I think.
