  • 6.6v liFe packs

Hi ime about to fit a liFe pack on my 700n ,and was wondering how do you check for voltage /millyamps used
is there a checker or some sort of light system to show the state of your pack after a couple of flights

also what size pack do you use and what brand

Fully charge it, have one flight, charge it again.

Check your charger to see how many Mah you have put in it, then do the math..

The way a LiFe battery works a load tester doesn't give the same results as when testing LiPos. Basically a LiFe battery is good until it is flat and then its flat and its game over.

      DO as sacko says.

I do as Sacko says - i fly 4 tanks on my 700n with hyperion 2100mah life on board and then re-charge. normally put back about 1000mah.

NQRC have a new battery odometer NQRC - North Queensland Radio Control - Electronics, Balsa kits and accessories which will take out some of the guesswork. Doubt i need it though. Neil at Hyperflight.co.uk imports some of their dlg regulators and such. He might get some of these are people are interested

            I do 270mah per flight on my vbar'd 700.

I do 5 flights on my Hyperion 3000mah LiFe, but I don't fly anymore than that

Andy, the reg isn't 100% efficient so there is some loss in the lipo/reg system. But you might be powering the glow on that too with a 2in1? also there is some leakage all the time the battery is connected to an align 2in1, even when its switched off.
The sudden drop off of the liFe packs is the only downside - Alan (for some reason) tried one is a tx and when the low battery alarm went off it stopped working after a couple of beeps!

I use about 400 mAh per flight on my 700N FBL with a 2S LiFe pack. There's quite a broad range from the different reports I've read so I guess it depends very much on the electronics, setup and flight style.

Lower voltage, its lighter I think, and the voltage is consistent through the charge. The main one is the voltage though.

Yes, lower voltage than a Lipo so many servos are fine to run directly from a 2s Life with no regulator (whereas they would burn out if you used an 8.4v Lipo). As far as I'm aware though, they are generally heavier than the equivalent Lipo. Not 100% sure on that. They're also safer than Lipos. You can charge them at higher C rates and they are far more tolerant to being over discharged.

You can use a switch on the ar7100 or better still an 'always on' type like this one
