  • Suggestions for a nitro engine for a Trex 600

    Hi,

Ruined the OS55 on my Trex 600 (through numptiness, not the engines fault), so other than the Align clone, whats a good alternative.

Not really had a lot of luck with the OS55 and this is the second one - first one was replaced under warrenty.

    Thanks,
    Matthew

Nothing wrong with os55 engines. But if you want something different I have a Nova Rossi 57 with pipe for 100 delivered!

Sorry, this is a daft question, but are all 50 size engines the same size eg, if an OS50 fits in the heli then a Thunder Tiger, YS or whatever would go just as well - with of engine and length of shaft the same, or are adapters required?

Why so much trouble with the 55 though. I've had one in about a year now with no issues apart fom some tuning ones early on.

First one went back under warrenty because the bearing cage distegrated which ruined the engine. The second one the bearing failed after a couple of tanks - replaced with a better quality one (which still looks and feels fine).

However, the glow plug thread went on the head and then managed to damage the piston getting the clutch mount off of the engine. Replaced the piston, but then one of the clips that hold the conrod shaft came off and runined the internals.

So other than the bearings, got nothing against OS, just not having any luck with them!

Luck is no substitute for bad maintenance I'm afraid!

However, the glow plug thread went on the head
The glow plug thread 'went'? Where did it go?? did you mean you overtightened it and stripped it?

and then managed to damage the piston getting the clutch mount off of the engine.
Don't tell me, you stuck a screw driver into the exhaust port to lock the engine?

Replaced the piston, but then one of the clips that hold the conrod shaft came off and runined the internals.
The one you mangled getting the piston off, but thought you'd use again anyway.. Am I right?

It doesn't matter what engine you get mate, treat 'em like that and they'll all give you grief.

Yes, I'd forgotten about them - used to use their Pico engines for my planks 20 years ago.

Yeah, Weston heli engines are really popular, used everywhere. Exactly what is wrong with OS, I've had 5 in various forms and had no issues apart from tuning on the 55. However, the engine is a belter.
