  • lipo fire with the castle 80 speed control

Hi im new to this site.
I sold my sons nitro trex 600 last week and bought the new 600e pro heli. My 13 year old son was right happy.
It was put to together and new lipo were bought. We thought that a test flight would make sence before going down the club. Blades starting spining and then white smoke shot out the speed controler then a bang and flames out of the batterys, lucky i managed to get the batterys out before the rest of the heli went up.
I got sent the new controler today under warranty but what about my new batterys. Castle im sure will never reply to my emails.
Skyline have said they will do a deal for me buy one get one free , but i should not have to pay again.
    Any suggestions welcome
    Matt

He is but also now scared after watching that happened.
As Align no of the prob with the speed controler it must be down to them to replace the battery.
The shop i bought it from did not no or had not been told of the recall and i dont think its fare for them to pay. I think it stinks

              When was it bought?

I find it hard to believe Skyline were completely unaware of the recall, but it cant be proven and they have offered a gesture of good will.

I would definitely still peruse it.

EDIT: Aren't skyline the distributors for Align?!!

Can we get the time-line clear here as it is going to be very important in determining what happens next.

Are you saying you bought a kit only a week ago which still had an original ICE 80HV ESC in it?

I find it very hard to believe that any UK retailer would still be selling a kit containing a product they all know has been subject to a recall.

Similarly are you saying that in the week that has elapsed, you have built, tested, returned the ESC and had it replaced?

imo they shouldn't have sold you the v1 as they are aware of the issues. tell them you want a v2 esc and free replacement batterys, or get a solicitor involved. who knows what could of happened to your son if it had gone worse.

I bought it on the 25/10/2011 . It was built that week. On the 29th was its first test and went up in flames, I took the speed controler and batterys back to the shop on the same day. They sent it back to skyline on 31st. They received it the next day and sent one out. My shop got it in today

Yes it came with the recalled speed controler. I had no idea at that time about it nor did my local shop. I have to say my local shop have been very helpful

well who ever supplied your shop with the model, should not have supplied the v1 esc. if you had been supplied with the v2 esc then, chances are it wouldnt have smoked, and your pack wouldnt have been ruined. personally, if this was me, id be spitting feathers right now, and would be going for them.

OK, introducing Skyline into this is not really appropriate as they were the distributor not the retailer.

Your contract and your ultimate resolution are through the shop that sold it all to you, don't let them duck and try to pass the blame elsewhere.

They have sold you a product which was subject to a serious safety advisory 2 months before you bought it. The manufacturer issued clear advice that these units should not be used. The retailer may claim they were not properly told about the advisory but that really is not your problem.

I know the temptation is to try and be 'nice' to the retailer and look to other people to blame, but the retailer really is the one that has to sort this out to your satisfaction and then they will have to look to their contractual partners to see what they can recover.

It wasn't clear from your original post but should we assume the battery packs are damaged as a result of the fire?

Also, was anything else damaged during the incident?
