  • 2.4Gig V 35Meg

Thought it would be intersting to see how many of you have or are going to switch to 2.4. Im one of the only fliers at my club using it (100 odd members), and a lot of the older fliers seem to see it as a kind of scary black magic!

Ask them if they've ever had a glitch or lockout.
When they say yes, tell them that's history with 2.4g

I can't recommend it highly enough for the complete confidence it inspires - knowing that the model will not encounter radio failure in the air is very comforting
    Cheers,

      I've just switched to 2.4
Not seen any others at my field either.
I think most people are probably waiting for Futaba & JR to bring out there own high end sets. I know I was, but one too many radio induced crashes (plane written off) made my mind up for me. Happy with my DX7 for now but will probably be buying a JR9 2.4 when it comes out (and wifey allows ).

Its not black magic! The tecnology comes from the world of compters, one of the 'ethernet' frameworks (like wifi)... I think everyone should convert - gone are the days of waiting for pegs... bring on over crowded skies!

I have the futaba 2.4GHz system - not had a glitch yet!

totally agree rob. The thing is they all sit and listen to me about the benefits of it, and when they ask me if ive ever had a glitch and i say no (even on my 600E!) they are amazed, but i think they are stuck in their ways to be honest. Its bizarre though cos a few people have lost models up the field with lockouts and glitching in one particular area. It has totally inspired confidence in the machine for me, and flying has progressed so far its unreal!

My planks are still on 35MHz (and a Twister CP v2). My Trex 600 nitro is the first on 2.4GHz, though I haven't even had its engine running yet!
Peace: Being left alone to examine the new bits you've just bought!

Waiting for Futaba to get there finger out and bring us the top end sets to the UK. I look to be getting my Club Start-up loan back and thats going on a new 2.4ghz set. But not after Spektrum set.

I'd say 99% of new starters at the club though are on 2.4ghz just a few are joining on 35mhz still.

The ONLY place im still using 35mhz is in the trainer im training my son on and that only because I havn't got 2 DX7's yet having said that, hes now past the buddy lead bit and going solo so ive then got to make up my mind, 35mhz in some older planks or another dx7 for him?

wonder how much value is left in a FF8 and FF9
                All the best

My mind was made up to stop waiting for the 9 channel sets when my trainer heli locked out as I took control back from the student only to encounter a crystal failure (it turned out) when I switched back. I wasn't having that happen again - the guy felt bad and I had to convince him that it was not his fault in any way that the heli crashed - there was nothing anyone could do at that point...

I now use my Spektrum DX7 as the Master Tx and an XP652 (old JR Tx) as the student box and it works very well.
The only downside being the trainer switch being what and where it is on the DX7 - but not a major hassle really...

                    Cheers,
                    Rob

Agree, I'm using the DX7 to train my son using a JR 2610, only hassle is the trainer switch but it's not a big deal just not very comfortable.

thats one way of looking at it Rob but the next step on from the glitch tends to be mechanical failure. If 2.4 gig masks glitches that may be related to a breaking down bearing etc then there are going to be alot of crashes that cannot be explained.

Futaba are doing a 7c version of the 2.4ghz and it comes with 3152 servo's.. helicopter version according to Tower Hobbies.

But the Futaba 12fgh has my eye
