  • 3GX compared to Beast X?

Has anyone flown a Beast X and an Align 3GX on the same heli? If so, how did they compare?

Looking forward to knowing people views on this as well

I have a 450 pro with beastx v3 and a 450 pro v2 with 3gx. To be honest i cant make my mind up yet. I have just changed the beastx to transmitter setting and am much more happy with how it flys now. I had it on the pro setting but it felt way too numb and the flip and roll rate was pathetic. Its much more lively and locked in now. I use a Dx8 and have set the dual rates from 100 to 125 (max). It feels a lot more agile now. I have the 3gx set to expert and the flip and roll roll is terrifying!!! In a good way. Its insane how fast this thing goes over!!!! Especially with stationary elevator rolls. I would say the 3gx feels a lot more flybar like... whereas the beastx feels a lot more like it does on the sim if you know what i mean. Beast feels very digital and computer like and the 3gx feels more mechanical. There are so many parameters that can be adjusted on both these systems so can be tweaked so much. I wouldnt say one stands out head and shoulders above the other. But im no pro pilot, so may not be the best to judge. But i think they are both very good.

I do like the sound of terrifying roll/flip rates! And I like the idea of being able to use two satellites for a tidier installation. For anyone else that is interested here's what two people posted when I asked the same question on Helifreak...

"If you're in 3D, 3GX is hard to beat. If you fly sport, big air or inbetween, buy a Beast."

"the 3gx unit is a much more aggressive unit and it doesnt hold as well as a beast x. i didnt like the 3gx on my 700e so the beast x went in and its alot less "nervous" feeling and more locked also. i like the 3gx unit in my 600e pro and i flew a friends 600e pro that i built and setup exactly the same but with a beast x. its alot tamer but i think that can be adjusted to be more aggressive in the settings.
bottom line is if you are in the market for a 3 axis gyro then get the beast x. it does fly better than the 3gx"

By the way SaneAdam... did you set your Beast X up with the maximum available cyclic pitch before binding? Can't remember the exact numbers but I probably had about +/- 11 or 12 degrees of cyclic and I found the roll rates to be pretty good although perhaps not terrifying! I've not tried the 3GX yet though.

Please tell me you didn't do that for the option that specifically asks for 6deg?

Set my cyclic pitch to 6deg as per the destructions. As it states this teaches the beast the cyclic geometry and does not affect the rate of rotation

The only way you can really compare, is if you buy and try them yourself.

No I mean the overall cyclic pitch range. After you've done the 6 degrees bit, how much total cyclic pitch did you allow the Beast X to use?

Well I've got a TRex 500EFL on the way and I'm just wondering whether to build it with the included 3GX or the Beast X that I already have. Tempted to go with the 3GX just for the sake of trying something different with the added benefit of being able to use satellite receivers.

I have now sold 3 of my beastx & gone for 3GX 1st one went on my 500 & the only way i can discribe the differace 3GX gives you real feel" & beastx is abit like plastic, im just putting 2nd one one my pro so im yet to put that one to test.
Having had many flights with my 500 since going from beastx to 3gx is proving to be the altimate 3D machine but as previously mentioned if your not so into 3D then it has to be beastx.

I have also just built a 500 Pro EFL using a 3GX. I use Vbars on my other helis (700e and 450 Pro) and I have to say that I am actually pleasantly surprised by the 3GX and being able to plug 2 Spektrum satellites into the unit makes it a much cleaner install than a BeastX. I would say build the 500 with the 3GX and give it a go.
