  • WHAT A CLANGER

    Hi Guys.
Went to our field on Tuesday to give my favourite helli a spin, pushed the throttle wide open and it did not budge, throttled back so I could scratch my head, and the damn thing leapt up in the air like a bat out of hell.
Would someone please help my feelings and confess that they have themselves also forgotten to change the transmitter to the model they are flying.
I have nearly completed the repairs now, but boy has this damped my confidence,we are all capable of mistakes, but in my estimation that one was unforgivable.
    DONT ALL LAUGH AT ONCE.
    GOOD FLYING.
    Mo.

Mo I've done it once, but thankfully its was not even started up but on the bench when testing I scratched my head wondering why servo's were running in the wrong direction then opened my eye's and noticed that the model selected was for the Rappy and not the Fury.........I gave myself a right ear bashing...

I feel for you mate, your having such bad luck its untrue....
      Cheers

        Hi Stu.
Its not bad luck mate it is just a question of stupitity,I even asked the wife when I got home to hit me over the head with the rolling pin.
Still this is one mistake I will not make again in a hurry.(I HOPE)
Thanks for your sympathy Stuart',but I still feel that I am a one off PRAT.
        GOOD FLYING.

          Hi Mo,

Been there, done that, well nearly anyway, I forgot Idle up and flipped the at the time Raptor 60 inverted, then stood there and wondered why it wouldnt climb out at full bottom stick, instead of which it just pilled in on its head 8O

I was so surprised and didnt really twig what was happening until it was all over, the heli proceeded to beat itself to death on the ground, totally obliterating the rotor head and the back end until the engine self destructed and stopped. It was still trying to run a head speed of 1800rpm as the governor was switched on 8O

The repair bill for that one was in excess of 550 including a new engine, complete clutch system, rotor head, blades, nearly all the bearings in the model, boom, tube drive, tube drive bearings, boom supports, tail blades, carbon fin set, new bigger pipe for the OS70, carbon tail pushrod and boom clamp set, main shaft, spindle, flybar, paddles, canopy, decal set, fan shround, rear frame set, skid set, nearly all the plastic ball links, assorted servo gear sets and arms and an RX crystal.

The worst part about it was the place it went in was covered with cow dung, so I had to scrape it off the remains of the heli before I could rebuild it

Youre not the first one to do something like that and you certainly wont be the last

          Cheers,

          Pete.

            Hello Peter.
You are a gem in your efforts to make me feel better with my silly mistake, but it must be remembered that I only fly two models, and If I can make an error like that with just a pair of helli's,just think of the potential disasters that would lie in wait should I be fortunate enough to own half a dozen.
I suppose the only thing in my favour was the fact that both helli's had identicle settings apart from that pitch control, so when I checked at the field it must have been my eagerness to get flying that made me overlook that reversed pitch.
The Conquest is again as good as new, and I have even managed to repair the canopy, but even so at my last excursion to the field I was back to the shakes again, and thought I was over that feeling, but you can be sure that I was extra careful in seeing the radio was switched to the correct model.
Hope you had a good time at the masters Pete', and hope you managed to get a bit film of the weekend.
            GOOD FLYING.
            Mo.
