  • What head gear to get?

    Hi folks,
I was having some fun on Sunday with my 450 basher, in quite a breeze, when I thought I had gone blind.

Quick as a flash, I realised it was just my cap that had been partially lifted off my swede after a sudden gust and the peak was now over my eyes. God is great. By the time I had shaken it completely off my head, my heli was two feet off the deck, inverted and heading straight to the scene of an accident.
Throttle hold then bin bag .

Like most of my heli kit, my hat is now a bit sloppy and am wondering what you guys can recommend. It's got to be warm (winter's coming), shower proof and have some sort of a peak for shade.

    Cheers,
    Marty

Style gurus, run away now... [This probably includes a certain BMFA cover-star... ]

Baseball caps under hoods work very well a lot of the time. The cap peak keeps the hood off your face a bit, and the hood keeps the cap in place.

Last winter, I got a serious down jacket with a zip-off hood - fully expecting to zip-off the hood all the time, and wear my usual hat. Instead, I found that the hood over a baseball cap was brilliant. Warmer than 'warm' hats, and with a better peak for low winter sun.

However, it's not such a good plan in warm/windy weather. Having said that, baseball caps can be too warm then, anyway.

                  Hi guys,
                  Some nice ideas there.
If I smoked a pipe, I'd go for the deerstalker - elementary init
I can see the sense in the werewolf outfit but we fly on a field that has bullocks grazing on it and I think that might be a bit of a turn on for some of the frisky buggers.
If money was not an issue, the Sealskinz jobbies look the business - just wouldn't want to be clubbed to death though.
The blue tac idea appeals greatly to my parsimony and that has got me thinking about some bailer twine that I've spotted on the farm gates. If it holds hay bails together it should keep my "old faithful" firmly strapped to my barnett. What could possibly go wrong?

                  Thanks again...
