  • EC5 Connectors ?

I've been using Deans for yonks but the time has come to change as I'm flying a 12s setup, these are getting pitted, worn out and are not rated for the kind of amps I'm putting through them.

The question what is the connector of choice I'm toying with going EC5 which reading from several posts here seems to be favorite. What worries me are all EC5 connectors created equal? I assume there are copies out there and I would really like some advice the best source to get em (bulk if possible as I'm looking at buying 30+)

If not EC5 what else do you recommend please bear in mind a 12s setup ie heavy gauge wire and 120a will be going through them at times.

Is the EC5 design actually manufactured by E-Flight or do they just copy the design?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers

EC5's are TOPS!!!! Great to solder. I just tin the wires on the Lipo, heat up the bullet with a blow torch then well half the bullet with solder then place the tinned wire in the bullet. Easy peezy lemon squeezy!

I have just changed to EC5 for my logo. Easy to install and quick to plug n un plug. Wish i went to ec3 instead of xt60 on my 3s lipos.

Yup EC5 all the way. EC3 for smaller stuff or even EC2 if you're talking 250 sized.

Brilliant - just like using bullets (great current handling, easy to get a good solder job) but polarised and somewhat protected.

go for EC5 mate....great connectors...ive allways had the e flight ones and recently tried some flight-power ones but could not get on with them....they would not pop when pressing the brass into the plastic.

Go EC5 and stick to one make (e-flight, recommended) if i was you.

Yep I second all comments EC3 & EC5 connectors here, they are just so easy.
One bit of advice from me, dont bother with a normal Solder Iron get a mini solder torch you will have them done in half the time.

I had the same issue with the FlightPower ones. Then I looked closely and found they work in the opposite way, so you have to push them in from the front not the back. So you have to push the wire through the plug, then solder, then push the pin into the plug. Right PITA.

i am just switching over to EC5's myself after using xt60's, so much easier to solder and plug and unplug, so its EC5's all the way from now on

A friend of mine bought the flight power style EC5s which I soldered onto some new packs for him. They are a right pain to use and I would not recommend them.

Go for the E-flight style where the pin pushes in from the back of the plastic housing. These are also my preferred connector for 500 sized helis and up. When I started using these it was quite tricky to get hold of them but im glad to see that availability of them has increased dramatically
