  • Have I got a duff servo in my 450 pro

    Hi all,
The more I think about it the more I think something is wrong with my 450. I've been thinking none stop about yesterday's crash. I had been inverted. Flipped to upright and was tail in. I was then coming back towards me tail first to get to a hover in front of me. Just gentle collective and small back elevator movements to bring it back slowly. The heli just rolled sharp right and straight in. This would have to be quite a big stick movement right for this to happen and it just don't make sense given the gentle back to hover movements I was inputting.
Also the last crash I had was similar. Just coming out of a banked turn from a circuit. Heli now straight and level for fly past and the thing just dived and rolled to the right. And the crash before that was exactly the same. There's a pattern emerging here with right rolls.
Is there any way to test the servos on the ground? I think I might just bite the bullet and buy a new set. Was looking at the trusty hitech 65mg's instead of aligns. Can get 3 for £49 from FL. Not being digital, are they not suitable. Should I get another set of align ds410m's?
    What do you reckon lads?
    Cheers, Rich

It has been well documented by lots on here and other forums that the 410's have failed lots of times (even just hovering). I know other people have had no such issues and that the issues seem to be from over tightening them when installing them but for me I would rather put the hitecs in mine than take the risk of another failure (my 450 has hitec servo's btw )

Very easy to over tighten servos in 450 Pro causes binding and overloading leading to failure.
I have had the 410's in my 450Pro and never had a problem.
I now use MKS 95DS, brilliant but expensive.
Hope you get it sorted, nothing worse than flying with a big worry in your mind.

I've sussed it out now and I feel like a dumb ass. The aileron servo wire had somehow moved from where I tie wrapped it and rubbed against the motor which is an out runner type and gone through to the bear wire therefore probably shorting it. I feel so stupid not spotting this earlier when doing my checks. I've now re-done the servo wire. Will be fine now.
Align are so stingy with the length of servo wire, there's barely enough to reach the rx so it was near the motor. Very little choice of route from servo to rx. Put extensions in now so can put it where I like.

Well done. Don't feel stupid. There's so much to go wrong you are bound to miss something. You've managed to solve a heli problem, without blaming 410s. Fault finding on Helis is very difficult as there are so many faults that can cause similar problems. Buying new servos would have solved the problem, but for the wrong reason. I use Hitecs HS65HBs. They are good, but one of them has failed.
