  • Tail drifting problem

    Hi

I have a raptor 50 with a 401 gyro and a 9254 tail servo which worked grear on my heli for months, and now for some reason the tail is drifting mostly to the left,i thought it could be static but i have tried spraying the belt and still no luck,
does anyone have a clue on how to stop this as its doing my nut in lol

    thanks

Probably the gyro has a fault. You could test it without flying by seeing if the servo stays in the same position after being switched on. If it drifts then its the gyro. If when flying it drifts after a few minutes then you could land and reinitialise it. I think that needs a few switches between hold and rate mode, then it sets itself in the middle and recalibrates itself.

What tail servo are you using? In heading hold mode when you switch it on it will slowly move when on the bench that's normal for heading hold gyros, how far out on the servo horn do you have the ball ?

Could be your gyro foam pads are too soft.add a strap down and see if it goes ?

Almost without question any model that was working without problems when they develop a tail drift it is due to vibration.

If you have not checked or changed anything or done any maintenance for those months that the model was working then I would suspect the engine bearing first. Check the gyro pad is not coming apart with oil contamination. Then check the whole model for loose parts or parts that have worn.

That would be my first port of call. Nose right (tail left) drift can be associated with too soft mounting. Nose left drift in my experience is normally down to vibes.
