  • 3gx reset itself

hi everyone, while at the field today i had my 450 v2 3gx totally lose control(thank good i was just lifting off), upon checking it all the controll settings had returned to factory settings, it was on its second flight of the day the first one going fine appart from a slight bump on landing from a doddgy auto, i know a few people on here and HF have had a similar problem, does there seem to be a common cause for this, have align had any comments, anyone any ideas as to why this might be happening, a few people on HF have commented it may be power related. heli is stock about 20 flights old using 2 speki sats
    thanks everyone adamf

Been watching the threads as I have one on my 600 Pro (but will probably put on my 450 first). Two most common thoughts

    1) Running with the standard 450 built in BEC seems to be a bit close to the mark when running fbl. Most seem to be upgrading to an external BEC.

    2) If something has come loose, there is a concern that the unit will reset to default if a lead is removed or comes loose whilst powered up. Not tried this myself.
    Cheers,
    Simon

Seems scary to hear this, I just finished my trex 550v2 3gx. Hope it's not a common problem!

Seems to be very few problems on the larger machines, but then most of these are running reasonable hefty external BEC's or separate rx lipos.

But why would a power issue cause the unit to return to default settings??

              hi guys
hi si , a couple of people have said about cables coming loose, will try a bit of hot glue next time and an esc upgrade
Ben you asked what i was thinking,
surely these issues could be sorted out with a firmware update, if align admit there is a problem
              cheers guys adamf

                Hi Adam.

Sorry to hear you've got a problem buddy, but luckily no damage was caused.

I'm curious as to what you mean by factory reset, did the cyclic gyros not work in their correct sense or the tail after the problem? Unfortunately the US posts don't really answer this question, just bang on about the system being rubbish and so no help at all to try and fault find.
Many of the US fliers I think go by what the PC link says reference model type when they link up, but I've seen that no matter what settings you write to the model initially, eg. 450, 500,700 etc, that on relink up it defaults to something else. Even if you read the settings, the sliders will show what you are actually using but the program won't remember you chose to setup a 450 or other model type.

My thoughts are as you've mentioned a brownout and hence 3GX signal reset in flight, which will give a very worrying glitch. It does appear limited to mainly smaller models, which again as mentioned use a BEC which is probably on the limit of supplying the system.
It's troubling how you can have X flights before trouble.

Did you spy the satellites flashing by any chance? This would signal a brownout or loss of signal.
                .

hi ian, yes mate all the gyros returned to their factory directions inc the tail, i must admit when thinking back i dont remember checking gyro directions before takeoff as the previous flight was fine, so i dont know if it reset in flight or during pack changes. i havent had a look at it yet (work, dam you) but will tonight, i did have a slight bump on the previous landing maybe that wiggled the cables i dont know, i will get it sorted and try again, shame it was flying really nice
                  cheers mate adamf

It's a sign that a DSM2 satellite has performed a Quick Connect. Power-cycling or brown-out are the most likely causes, but ESD can cause this.
