  • First heli...

As soo many opions, I'm going with my heart. I still want a nitro heli, and then find some poor sucker to check it over and run it in with me (any volenteers around altershot/guildford? Go on you know you like that new kit smell)

So I found a Raptor 50 titan SE kit (with tt rl 53, mufflr, govnr & blades) for £350. Should I jump at that? seems like i should?

I think a trex 600 might figure, but too expensive up front so far.

Again, value is key (not outright cheapyness).

Thahnks in advance for any input.

Get a trex 450 or 500 3 lipos can't go rong .nitro is a good way to go if you can hover already but stick to wood blades till your flyin curcuits as cf blades will cost ya most of a crashed 500.

Don't agree with horsham there, buy the biggest heli you can afford, to buy, and to keep in the air if crashed, until a few weeks ago, I had never flown a 600 sized machine, but if you can afford it I would seriously consider one so much more stable than a 450 or 500 just my opinion

600 yes more stable but the parts are lots more for them if crashed .i would also say 450 500 size parts not to bad

I'm not rich, quite the opposite! I had read a few times that a .50 is more stable. I can certainly beleive that as I had a tiny fixed pitch indoor thing a a few years back before the co-axials. and that was like trying to balace a ball bearing on a point of a cone, let alone plate.

My logic went something like, get something that will last and is common enough to have good spares availabliity when I crash it ;P And maybe to start some of the cool aerobatic stuff. Should only take a few years, lol.

Good point with the wooden blades, I would sure start out with those, or maybe cheaper fiberglass to avoid setting tracking lots?

Also, I was keen to get feedback on that price? Anyone know if its good? I've seen nothing much better than that deal.

Don't know about the price, but from what you have said I would definitely look into a trex 500, its kind of a best of both worlds heli, but don't forget when pricing things up, to remember lipo's, and a decent enough charger and psu for them,

you don't say if it has servos or a gyro in it
if it does the price is as good as long as the heli is in good order

Its a BNIB kit... no electronics, save the govnr. Quite keen on building it up so i can fix it when i crash it :P

One of the reasons I'm less keen on electric is the cost of flying continuously is really high! 4 lipos == lots of money. Maybe cheaper in the long term, dunno?
                        Is a t-rex 500 as stable as the 50?

Nope its not as stable, but on average cheaper to fix when you crash, I say on average, as each crash is different,

If not keen on electric then deffo go for a .50 sized machine, means a lot more flight time aswell, cheaper in long run?...... who knows lol

with my dabble into electrics nitro has worked out a lot cheaper
when i compared costs i took the battery life as 200 cycles as stated by the flight power batteries i bought
and it was in a few pence in terms of cost but charging costs were never caculated into it
but i have a box of flight power lipos that cost £1000 and all i got was 20 cycles before they hadn't got the power to fly the heli
they never went below 35% and they came off the heli cool, the motor/esc was cool so they were never abused

if the titan is bnib i would look at the cost of a new from a shop kit and then do your sums
but it sounds ok to me
