Nobody needs to understand any of this if they don't want to. Just copy someone who has found a setup that works. We can use the manufacturers expertise. Just ask them will you guarantee that this pack will work in this model. How long should it work for Sport, 3D or hard 3D. How can I test the batteries to see they are working ok before they puff or fail in flight. What sort of cooling do I need.

Building packs that allow air flow through them is one way. Forced air cooling is not that difficult. If all else fails go for lower performance or shorter flights with LiFe. I'm thinking of going that way at the moment with possibly a 4S 2250 pack on a 450.

Stunks, have you contacted Julian at Flightpower about this yet?

I can't comment on the Voltz packs but if you are happy you've done everything right and the packs have puffed this quickly, I'd be surprised if he wasn't willing to sort this out.

There are suppliers who offer guarantees. The main problem is using batteries to the spec that some manufacturers claim. If you run 25C batteries at 10C you'll be ok. Large helis and hard 3D aren't good on batteries at the moment. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFe) lasts a lot longer than LiPo. But is heavier for the same performance.
