  • What do you look for and Why

    Okay,

Dabba pointed out some great levels of service from Skyline, but what makes you buy from either your local store or maybe not so local. If you feel any of the choice doesn't accuratley hit the nail on the head feel free to add to the post explaining your reasons.
    Cheers

I spoke to Skyline when I was first looking around. My club recommended the Hawk as it is a good reasonably priced kit and suited for a beginner. Now, Century are based about 10 miles from my home, however, Skyline gave me better advice and a better deal on a hawk kit.

It pays to phone around and speak to people in the trade.

I always go to Midland Helicopters first - I discovered Dick Wallinger about 15/20 years ago when he started doing a little trading from his Garage in Hinkley.
I was flying Kalt at the time and crashing them a bit to often. There was a firm at the time (they will remain a secret) who specialised in Kalt spare parts and where happy to just keep sending me the spares with no great advise as to what the problem was. Dick Wallinger was the first to try and find out what was going on - I was invited down to his house and we went flying in his back garden which happened to be Hinckley common .
I found this approach refreshing and have had great service from Midland Helicopters since. Now Dick's son Trevor Wallinger runs the business and carries on the same great service to Model Helicopter Fliers.

Where does quality and integrity feature in this poll/discussion? Some shops stock the cheapest crap that they can get their hands on and out it at the best profit. Others have integrity and won't sell pants products. e.g. Skyline...

I mostly buy from my local store, Fred Coulson Models in Bristol. I know Ian the owner very well, he is a member in our club and he always sends people who buy model helis to me at the club for help with building, setting up and test flying. I also test a few of the latest heli related products he stocks from time to time.

              Cheers,

              Pete.
