  • What to get next...?

Hi guys and girls, I'm looking to get another heli in a few months time, my question is this....I want some thing that is big enough to fly comfortably out side in light to moderate wind, but bigger then a micro, i enjoy flying circuits but not too keen on learning 3D as yet, budget wise less then £200.
What recommendations do you have, or have used?

Oh yeah sorry lol, its a Force heli based on an MCX2 with spektrum 2.4 radio, so really needs to be a RTF.

At that price for a full setup you aint gonna get diddly squat!!!
A half decent radio setup is going to cost that much, then if you want to fly in wind you will want a 600 or 700, total cost could be in 4 figures by the time youve got all the other essensials; be warned its not a cheap hobby and if you buy cheap cr4p youll regret it!!!
Buying second hand off here is your best route but you will have to revise your budget and expectations for sure; a sensible budget would be around £350 - £450 depending on how lucky you are to pick up the right stuff and how patient you are to wait!!!
Hope you see my comments as being constructive because I speak from experience, I did all the wrong things!!!
        Good luck

See, that changes things a bit.... An mCX is a great little heli for learning on but it's a big step up to a "proper" heli, and you'll find the radio you have (I assume it was the bundled one) will be inadequate.

In all honesty I agree with the above, 200 isn't realistic for what you need.

It may not be a popular suggestion, but the new Blade 450 might be a good choice since you can buy it BNF with a DX6i and everything you need... you WILL find it difficult though because it's a huge step up from an mCX... unless you have someone to help you learn to fly or a sim to practise on lots this might be too big a step. It goes without saying that you will pay more than your budget however since you need literally everything Eflite Blade 450 3D Ready To Fly Combo Mode 2 BLH1600M2 you do however also need to consider the money you'll need for spares because you will crash, probably several times.

Another choice if you really can't stretch the money is the mCP X... I know you said you wanted a bigger heli to handle the wind, but the mCPX will actually handle a small breeze easily, it's a totally different bird to your mCX. The advantage is you can learn to fly CP on a relatively cheap and easy to set up little heli that won't take much damage from crashes if you fly over grass. Pick up the BNF (about £120 iirc) and a cheap second hand DX6i (around £50) - it's far better than the included controller and you will be able to use it for future heli's too. Use the remaining £30 for spare batteries (take a look at nano-techs from hobby king to get the most for your buck) and spare parts.

And as above, the final option is to buy something second hand, but that's a minefield if you don't know what you're doing. You also still won't get in at anywhere near your budget.

I was going to suggest a second hand blade 400 with a second hand dx6i but not to fly in anything more than a very light breeze while youre learning the ropes, its hard enough without wind to contend with. As I said compromises have to be made.... wind.... budget.... expectations!!! Sorry but thats the harsh reality of it; I came very close to giving it up altogether for those reasons - alternatively get a second hand dx6i and Phoenix, you would learn a lot more and not have crash costs - then save up for a decent heli!!!

my first setup cost £400, £320 for a seccond hand trex 600n, and £80 for a seccond hand dx6i plus rx. i was lucky that someone gave me a starter and fuel pump. so either you save up more for a decent heli, and know that you wont need to buy again for a verry long time, or you get something now, and start again from scratch saving for a larger heli. this is a verry addictive hobby, and unfortunately a verry expensive one.

There's a BNF blade 450 for sale on the BMFA website for £150. You'll need a transmitter but you could probably find a second hand dx6 for about £50.
