  • Trimming Tail with Beast X

    Hi all

I have my 500 flying sweet as a nut now, My only thing is when i turn heading lock off the tail will drift quite quickly (nose to the left) Im guessing i trim this mechanically like old heading lock Gyro's ? Sorry for dumb question but getting fedup of flying around with heading lock on all the time lol

I think it's still the same way mate. Everything has to be 100% on the mechanical side before adding any electronic aids (I.e., gyros etc)

Gives it less work to do

Why would you want to turn heading hold off? I have never flown in rate since getting HH gyro!

It helps the gyro not work so hard and people with beast X have found they get a better hold

I dont see how that is possible lol the Tail hold is So good its untrue,

I want to fly Rate for fast forward flight so that the tail will follow a little more naturally, I find i some times get crabbing if i dont put the tail where it needs to be and it just looks untidy, I guess i could just fly HH all the time but i thought its the lazy mans way of flying,

Any gyro will give better results from being set up properley in rate mode, not just the Beastx.

Just out of curiosity as I cannot test fly it till at least this weekend. How pitch is the ball park figure? I seem to remember the spartan manuals recommending 8deg?

Never actually measured it Harry, just start with a bit of pitch pushing tail to the left (assuming a clockwise head) and adjust the tail pushrod till it'll hold in a rate mode hover.

I never set rate mode, just always set the tail a little offset and away I go

Remember if you want to set up in rate mode you need the turn on the revo mixing as well to counteract torque from the main rotor.
If you want to use hh as well then set revo mixing to the same switch as rate mode.

Yeah but I guess any amount helps Ben. It's never going to be perfect in rate mode compared to HH.

True, but the beastx has it's own revomix built in so you shouldn't need to worry about that
