  • Funnel 8 advice

Hi, i am trying to get to grips with the above move, and i thought i would rather than just practice -crash -practice - crash like i have done with my whole flying so far.... maybe some one who has mastered this move could give me pointer. At the moment i can pull of now and then a half descent 2 or 3 eights , but can any one point me in the right way, questions as follow :-

    1 what size is best

2 Do i go for vertical high speed or slight dish slower (high speed seems easier ) ?

3 is there some secret i should know ?

All help would be much much appreciated !!!

Slow is better IMO, it gives you much more time to figure out the required stick movements. You ideally need to have a grasp on the funnel/pie dish in both orientations, ie if your sound it tail down, you need to be able to do a tail down clockwise and an inverted tail down counter clockwise, then it's just a case of the required elevator input for the transition between each.

If you do them too fast, all that will happen is you will muddle your way through and you will struggle to tidy them up and keep the size/speed consistent. Slow and steady to start

Yes i ve been doing em way to fast , almost vertical, which is exciting when it goes wrong ... back to the sim me thinks , i need a much more control to doing em slow !!

While I have not mastered funnel fig 8. yet (at least not in real), I'd say, yes there is a secret (which I got from another pilot who is much better than me), I'd stop trying to memorize stick movements and start practising slow pirouettes in one spot, both upright and inverted, funnels are quite obvious after a couple of weeks/months of doing these (as is fig 8, backwards flying and tons of other things)

I can only tell you the way I do it" fly a circuit clockwise to start the feel for it" (heli reacts better to begin in this this direction) then at furthest point turn nose-in going into a vertical motion with slight tail & aile control to start the funnel works every time for me, if I do it at any other point I just lose it, Im now able to do it vertical at awesome speed.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.
