  • Remember to Loctite !!

Well since my last bump I obviously forgot to loctite in the boombrace on one side...

See what an M4 bolt can do to the leading edge of a Spin blade - now I have two 690's of Spins that are 5g difference in weight....

    blade4.jpgblade1.jpgblade2.jpgblade3.jpg

Only 1/2 way through my first tank of the day and was getting settled in - till I heard a cracking sound and brought it down to checkout...

My piro flips where looking nice too. What are the chances of a bolt hitting one blade

Nothing against Spin but I wish they offered trade ins on single blades....lol - My collection is just getting silly now.....
    Cheers
    Stuart

I wouldn't mind so much if it was the last flight of the day but we had just spent 20mins standing in the rain, first flight and not even half a tank in and then this - I have to laugh its just sods law in all my years I've never had a bolt hit a blade.

At least your blades didn't fly off. I blame GiantCod myself for not telling me to loctite the feathering shaft holding their carbon blades together. Good blades though. Completely undamaged. I didn't forget the loctite, I just forgot it was tempory and ok so long as I checked the bolts before each flight. That's what it says in the blade400 handbook. I kept thinking as I checked everything else, that there was something else to check. I was right there was. There was one other person in the field. A plank flyer and of course one of the blades headed straight for him. Luckily I was far enough away from him for it not to reach him.

                Dear Stuart ,
We have carefully concidered you aplication to the exclusive "I am too stupid to fly model helicopters" club, regretfully on this occasion we feel you were just unlucky and the obvious lack of a pre flight check has brought you close to membership.

We will be only to happy to review any future applications.

                Yours Rachel

I assume I'm already a member then, for deliberatley not loctiting as a temporary measure, and then forgeting.

Before flying today, I checked the feathering shaft bolts for play by pressing in the blade holders. There was play and one of the bolts was loose, even after loctiting. So loctited again and did up bolts tighter. 7 flights later still ok, but dampers are not squashed equally.

In cricket terms there is a primary club and they have a tie. Perhaps we need a T shirt or nice Broche.
