Esc advice

Toying with the idea of replacing on of my nitros with a fusion but I have a query with regards to the esc.... with all the bad press on Castle cremations and not wanting to pay KT prices, i've came across the Scropion 130A or the Hyperion ATLAS 130A but theres never been any stuff mentioned about them.. so really curious what they are like and whats opto and how do i get that to work

I don't know about the Hyperion, but check the size of the Scorpion, I've got a 90A one here and that is very large already.

The wires are not very flexible either, especially the battery connection with the anti-spark connector already fitted.

I've not heard anything bad about them from a performance perspective, just a little harder than most to get it mounted on the model in a suitable spot.

The Scorpions seem to work very well. Have not heard of any issues with their new range.

Opto should stand for opto coupled. Instead of having an electrical connection you have a connection by light. An led to a photodiode like a 4n27 from many years ago. It gives electrical isolation, like transformer coupling, for better safety and noise immunity. As far as I know there is no problem with noise or safety, but opto coupling is a good thing to have. It might be more of a marketing thing, but if you are running high voltages and currents it might be useful. It is easy to do though and not expensive. It allows the low power side to be unconnected, electrically, to the high power side. At least that's what it meant to engineers a few years ago. It may have been redefined by esc designers.

You dont have to do anything opto isolation is a way of seperating the HiGH voltage side of the ESC from the LOW voltage using light waves so there is no direct electrical connection if things went titzup. Basically it will stop you sticking 44.4+ volts through your RX and should anything hapen to your ESC in a crash etc.

The hw 120hv is pretty big and i think the 100hv is even bigger!...if you got the fusion and wanted the 120 hv the only place you can put it is on the side frame(see pic).My ar7100 is fitted on the opposite side.Performance wise its not bad and touch wood,not caught fire!..TBH,it doesnt even get warm.
