  • TREX 600 Canomod canopy help/advise

I have just treated myself to a Canomod canopy (very nice) for my Trex 600. It came with pre marked positions for the drilling of the holes at the rear. I have a Hatori 522 muffler fitted and when I tried fitting it, the bottom edge of the canopy was cutting into the pressure pipe. To cut a long story short I decided to drill just below the pre marked areas therefore raising the canopy just enough to clear the pipe. When I put the grommets in, it became apparent that there is now very little fiberglass between the bottom of the holes and the bottom of the canopy and now prone to cracking.

I'm now not sure what to do for the best, should I some how strengthen the rear area of the canopy and leave the holes where they are or should I re-drill them? either way I think I've made a boo boo....

Has anybody else had this problem? any advice / help would be really appreciated.

I have also bought a Canomod 3D canopy for my Raptor 50 and I am after a mounting set PV0501 & thumb screws if anybody has one for sale? Hopefully I won't mess this one up as well................!!!!

    Thanks

    Dave

If it now fits then I'd go with reinforcing the holes. When I reinforce or repair canopy cracks then i use fibreglass tissue layers buttered with slow epoxy.. more time to work it than glass fibre resin

      Hi Dave , :-)
you can do what i have done , pop the grommets in then spread epoxy, or fiberglass resin around the insideso you reinforce the area around the hole/grommet .
If it takes your fancy you can even use bandage , plane wing bandage is good , but the OMG I am leaking stuff works as well. ;-)
just paint on the glue/resin then press the bandage on, then paint on another layer of glue.

This will reinforce the Canopy whilst not reall increasing the weight/thickness.

      Hope this helps

Yup.. as already mentioned strengthen the area with tissue/kitchen paper and Expo... do you remember as a kid or when kids paper mache a ballon with newspaper.. thats how you do it around the area that needs strengthening

What you should have done to save drilling the cano, was use a tie to hold the pressue line away from the cano or line the edge of the cano with cut fuel tubing to save the pressure line rubbing against the cano.

Thanks for all the advice. Its appreciated.

I realise now that I should have drilled the holes where they were marked but i thought I new best WRONG.........!! It sounds quite a simple job reading all the comments but I'm just a little nerveous I don't make thigs worse....

Next time I see you up the field Rachel you will have to show me what to do as you are a bit good with canopies fromwhat I have seen

          Cheers
