  • Flight times and throttle percentage

Right I've now sorted out what headspeed I want and I can get that on my 600 now I've changed pinion. Thing is I'm still having to run at 93% to get it how I want it, and this is just hovering about. Now I know if I go to 100% I can get 1864rpm which will be enough for me for quite a while yet as the 600 will do 3D stuff at that headspeed, but...

If I fit a bigger pinion, say a 17T one I can get a bit more at the top and manage my hovering headspeed at 87% throttle. Is that worth doing from a likely flight time perspective?

A new pinion is likely to cost me something like £5 so I don't want to bother if it's unlikely to make much of a difference. After charging the lipos last night from yesterday I can safely go to 6mins flying time at the minute.

Doesn't matter what pinion you use, it's the head speed that reduces your flight time.

Ideally you want the desired head speed at 100%, personally I would leave it where you are.

Sounds like sound advice to me. If you can get 6 mins, maybe set your timer for 5.5 mins to give you a heads up that it's time to land. I've seen a few batteries spoilt where people have had a rather more energetic flight and pulled a few more amps than they were expecting.

When are we going to see a video ??
      Cheers,

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if it was the % throttle that the ESC was putting out or the head speed that effected the flight time so thanks for confirming.

Oh even at 6mins I've still got a bit of reserve, so no worries there.

As for the video, well I need to be at the field of doom ( when Dan remembers an SD card ) before that can happen

ESCs are most efficient when giving 100%. Going to a larger pinion will likely increase your power consumption and reduce your flight time.
