Took it all apart and completely rebuilt it, rerouting the cables differently so they were all seperate and a good distance away from each other.

Nipped over to the model shop because I wanted to fly it in front of them so they could see the glitch.

Took it up in a hovver for about 10 seconds then the glitch happened again...but this time it wouldn't recover, it flipped itself over and the motor hit full speed even though my throttle stick was completely off. It then dug a hole for itself in the floor until the battery fell off. Result = one knackered heli.
Actually its not too bad, the feathering shaft broke which saved the (brand new) carbon blades and main shaft, paddles/fly bars are toast.

So after that little experiment I've concluded it wasn't down to the way my cables were routed. General consensus from the guys at the shop and my own opinion is its ESC, although the receiver and crystal was discussed as a possible.

Ref the DX7, the only military problem I can imagine is ECM equipment, as I found out trying to fly a twister in Iraq, the ECM cut the signal and I stuffed the twister. Although as I'm not a scaley there could be stuff I don't know about.

Mmm yes well many moons ago the tedious little devils in a certain province in the British Isles had been known to use 27 and 35Mhz stuff to explode their devices and there were countermeasures developed. It may well be that 27 & 35 Mhz is still regarded as a possible menace in high threat areas by the military.
As for the 2.4Ghz stuff would microwave comms upset it if strong enough? Dunno myself. Would the Military try and prevent the unauthorised reception of any wireless networks they may have by jamming the signal at base boundaries? Possible - the military are paranoid by default.
Would be nice to know what is causing the problem though.

Hey Chugga-bug, i just got a Shulze 8.35W how do you rate them? Did I do good? I tried the coiled aeriel along a plastic tube trick and it cut the Shulze's range down to about 250 feet !!!!!

Yeah Icarus, sorry mate, but your wiring looks like a real plate of spaghetti and that is gonna make glitch busting a lot harder to troubleshoot. Keep all the esc powerfeeds at the front and all the Radio gear wiring at the back, ensure your 'polo mint' (Ferrite ring or Choke) is close to the Rx end of the Esc wire to minimise signal/noise pickup getting to the Rx. Many folk shorten unnecessary wiring to tidy it all up and reduce emmission/collection sources. And yeah, Gyro on Top=Bad.........
        450SE Silver - Power: Neu1107-2Y + 10t pinion
        ESC: Jazz 40-6-18 Gov.- Batts: 4s, FP 2100 20C. pitch +/- 11 (TC60 PC 0,25,50,75,100) HS2900
        HS65Mg x3 + GY401 + S9650 tail
        Rx: AR6200 - Tx: FF9Super(T9CP) Spektrum module
Progress Status - aggressive fff and loops
        Crash count = 10 for 153
        Trex time aloft = 19:45

Hi Rick- The shultze worked great for me. Cut my glitch rate down to about 1 in 10 flights when coupled with the MAP antenna. I've never had a problem with range on mine. It can be a 'dis-orientated dot' in the sky and I still have radio contact.
It's still sensitive to component and wiring placement though. I had to replace the bottom frame plate recently and put the RX back in upside down from it's previous position and I started getting more glitches.

I think I'm gonna be going the DX7 route very soon. This really is the only sure way of beating the glitch monster .
