Li-po Ducati jumpstart !

In case anyone wondered it is possible to jump-start a Ducati 916 in an emergency using a 3s 5000mAh pack, using the power lead that goes between a cellpro 10s charger and the pack (with bullets (and crocodile clips) on one end and deans on the other.) The poor Ducati battery was only at 11 volts at rest.

Obviously don't try this at home as its seriously not a good idea (especially when the engine fires, and the alternator starts charging), but it can be done as long as you are quick to disconnect !!!

I am sure I will get flamed for this post, but I was amazed it worked !

good job getting the duke started is far more important than a 3s lipo!! A man without his bike is a very unhappy man

The 12awg wire on the leads did get warm after only a second or two of cranking.

lol It only used 300mAh out of the pack, I just charged it back up !

Somebody got a star letter in RCME for doing the same with his car. Did the lipo get warm? Your lipo must be rated at over 100 amps and the car battery would have helped as well. Might be an idea to put a big diode in the way if you want to do it again and stop the 14V from the alternator getting back to your lipo, although there's not much chance of that when the car battery and lipo will have been down to about 8V or so.
