  • Getting brave...(aka stupid)

    Right chaps,

Back into Helis again after a couple of years away. Getting to the point where I am about to try loops and rolls. I can fly circuits, eights, remote circuits, hover nose anywhere as long as it is the right way up, but want to push myself into hairybatics. Done it all on the sim, but the sim has a reset button and my helis don't. I have attempted the odd roll with a T-Rex and it either looked lousy or was bottom clenching. I'm guessing I was using too much negative pitch as the heli just stopped and it all got rather exciting for a second or two......

Suppose what I am after is how to proceed without too much risk as funds are limited. Any tips, hints, how not to's are all welcome. Probably will try on the Rexys before I do anything rash with the Evo 50.

    Cheers,
    Simon

funny thing how A little bloody toy 450 the size of a shoe can strike fear to your very soul when trying new things out isn't it but weather I'm flying my nitro or trex i feel the same, I've not been flying for long (7months) and thought I'd never master the hover, the hover came and went and the circuits where terrifying all i wonted was to be able to zoom about and enjoy flying instead of shi*ing my self every second lol, the circuits came and went sod this lets try some loops, every different thing i did ended in crash after crash but i pushed on, loop's pah! lets try some inverted followed by rolls stall turns and crashes, bored of rolls and loops tick tocs came next, then slowly but surely i stopped crashing and now i'm just getting the hang of the pie dish nothing i do is perfect and there all a bit ragid around the edges but i'm doing ok but for me it's just been a case of getting out my comfort zone and pushing myself but with no other option than crashing inbeetween, the buty of the little 450 is cost per crash ut yes its still gutting when the thing takes a tummble, maybe its not wot u wonted to hear but for me the only way forward is all or nothing.

No Phoenix just XTR unfortunately . One of those things on the to do list.
Being a glider guider really I suspect I am trying to fly the roll like a plank and am stopping the heli and using too much negative to boot (which is the exciting part) . Would it be better to do a few reversals and/or immelmans first and once happy with those then go for the full roll and loop as I would already have half of each sorted?

Ade, Still got the Accacia (Knackered)? Ever get up the slope these days? Still fly mostly slope (at the Mynd these days) and do the odd F3F competition but not the full league.

            Cheers,
            Simon

Hi Simon, seems we all get those feelings then, in the same boat as you right now, fine on the sim but a total mess with the real thing.

              Keep us posted

              cheers Dor

yup same feeling here, if im ont wiv a plank I can fly it till tank runs dry, if I m out hovering or doing circuits with the heli again tank fulls wiz by.

but soon as I start messing around with new stuff inverted tic tocs etc. 4 or 5 mins and I just want to land the thing as ive had enough.
                All the best
