Its no longer the 8FG its the 8FG super and comes with 14 channels instead of 8 hence the price difference. They are no longer making the standard 8FG hence the reason why there are some cheap deals on the older one...if you can find one of course.

That's not it, the upgrade was firmware only and there is no cost difference between old and new models.

Some places like Inwoods and Slough have been offering the 8FG Super at very low prices and that is probably why they are out of stock

Think you'll find the 'old' and the new one are the same except the 'new' one is shipped with the new firmware giving it 14 channels...

Only difference I've found is the side sliders are a little longer on the 8FG Super, debatable if this is actually an improvement though.

There are some slight differences between the 8FG and the Super , not just firmware . The switches on the side are different for starters , theres a couple of other small changes as well , but nothing that really makes much difference . Whichever one you manage to get you wont be dissapointed . It may not be the pretiest TX on the market but for the price imho it cant be beaten . Rob.

There is a difference in price and a couple of subtle changes however Ripmax are not doing a TX only. You will have to wait and see if one of the shops breaks open a box and sells in on separately. Have you looked at the new JR XJ8 I would say it is better than the Futaba but thats just my opinion and they are in stock and slightly cheaper.

I assume you mean the XG8?

I'm curious as to what makes you consider it better than the Futaba?

JR appear to have made the effort to duplicate almost all the software features of the 8FG but I didn't spot anything that they had improved on.

The JR has telemetry right now which could be considered an advantage, but the way Futaba is handling telemetry looks to be a little better for the near future, so that is a temporary advantage.

Then you have the Futaba at 14 channels vs 8 and with SBus for connection to FBL while the XG8 has no means to avoid multiple connections to FBL controllers.

Hi Mark, As I made it clear it was just my opinion. You have a good point with regards to the multiple connections to FBL controllers. This is something that the new JR cant do at present but will only be a matter of time. The 14 channels as opposed to 8 is great but what the hell do you need 14 channels for when flying a heli.
I find the programming on the JR to be much better and easier and whilst I might sound a bit of a tart...I think the Futaba looks ugly and I really like the look and feel of the new JR. It is also so much lighter. Its also brand new technology which I appreciate can got one of two ways!!
I personally prefer the JR. I have a DSX9 which is perfect for all my needs but chose a new XG8 for some of the newer features.
It all boils down to personal preference I guess and I was giving my opinion.

Of course and everyone is entitled to do that, I was just curious as I'd recently made a choice between these two and I was wondering if I'd missed anything

You are right about not needing 14 channels for a heli most of the time, but it does open up some interesting mixing opportunities and in my case at least I have some scale plans where it will come in handy.
