  • Wind direction while learning?

I was just wondering if its better to fly with the wind blowing in to my face and then flying left to right so the wind is usually on one side or the other of the heli.

    Or

Should I turn 90 degrees so the wind is on my side and then the heli is either flying with the wind or into it?

I am just flying slow circuits and figure eights at the moment, I know I should learn to fly both ways eventually just wondered if one way will help with the learning.

    Regards
    Anthony

As you can see from my Avatar, I was restricted flying on a campsite. I stood in the same place every time no matter which way or how strong the wind was blowing. It made for some EXCITING knee trembling moments. But I believe it helped that WIND from ANY direction does NOT faze me when flying bigger Helis.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

My wind direction flying mainly depends on the sun position, back has to be towards the sun.
Gunna make sure wind towards me in future though flying my little MCPX,strong wind yesterday blew it way down the dense potato field and couldnt find it.

I try to fly with the sun behind me.

And if its windy and I am practicing hovering around, any direction as long as the exhaust smoke is not going in my face.

Best with the wind behind you but good if you can get used to it from all directions

We have a fixed flightline so have to put up with whatever the man upstairs decided to throw our way. I'm with Pete though, wind behind over your shoulder heli can take an age to come back but wind in your face it's surprising how it can catch even the best pilots out.

Doesn't matter. Learn to fly with any wind direction, most fields usually have landing spot and flight line in a set place, so no choice.
Try to land upwind it's easier.

I usually try to fly into wind, but depends on where the sun is as well. If you fly with the wind to your side then when you fly past with the wind behind the heli it will get away from you pretty quickly. I always seem to have a bit of tail wag as well when I fly with a tail wind, head wind the heli holds fine.

if you fly wiht the wind behind you, if something goes wrong the heli will blow away from you. but if the wind is blowing in ur face, it will come at you
