  • my lucky day

its been twelve months since i had my last crash in the early days of learning. i took the helis to a friends farm for a weekend long birthday celebration of drinking, eating, shooting and flying. i have never had an audience before, all sat in rows in camping chairs to watch me! all was going well as my confidence grew, but despite my shakes i got braver and braver and flew the helis faster and more aggresively than i have ever done before. everyone loved it and i began to relax. it had to happen though, as i flew the 400 way beyond my normal limits of height and distance and lost orientation. down it came, fast and inverted from 80 feet. under normal circumstances this impact would have destroyed the heli, but it came down in a really dense wheatfield and did absolutely no damage whatsoever other than the feathering spindle. not another mark! even another six inches to one side and it would have hit the hard ground in clearing on a tractor run. i could not belive my luck. quick spindle change and it was flying again.
it also made one of the onlookers decide to go and buy a heli also. great day, just about
