  • Lessons Learned.

    Hi all,
I recieved my Raptor 50 v2 the other day, all that needed fitting was the tail boom, tail servo linkage , drive belt and the Main rotor blades.

Once these were fitted I thought Now would be a good time to start it up. a little power check for vibrations etc, in real life i am a helicopter mechanic so i know how damaging vibrations can be.

everything seemed fine so I was now happy to fit the training frame and start learning my new hobby.

With training frame fitted and after a bit of lunch I re-started the helicopter, and began to give it some power. This is where it went wrong!

After about 1 minutes of trying to slide the heli round on the concrete Boom!! blades came off Not from the blade bolts but from the main grip bolts. Bits of shattered blade everywhere. As the blades were still attached to the grips this ment that the bolt attaching the grips to the head were still contained within the grips, I had a look at both bolts and NO thread lock was applied to these bolts.
replaced the blades and started up again for another go of sliding it around. As this was my first go I am amazed at how little input is required to make the desired movement however control was not good. I then decided to romove the control linkages and work through the linkage setup guide in the manual, Where I found None of the linkages set to there approximate length either for beginner ( me) or expert 3d.
So what Have I learned , Well never trust an ARTF advert or may require small Tweaks.

I have now removed All rotating parts and began to thread lock everything that can be threadlocked and check tighten everything else, whilst waiting patiently for a linkage setup tool.
If there is anything else I should Check Please let me know

    Cheers Lee

is it your first heli? as you say your new hobby.
is there a club local to you that you could go to and get it checked over
sometimes the manual measurement on linkage rods are wrong anyway and have to be adjusted to get equal pitch.
