  • Phoenixtech DS502C frame rate???

Can anyone tell me the frame rate for the Phoenixtech DS502C tail servo please? Its attached to their GT9 gyro and currently set at the default setting. Seems fine and the tail servo aint getting hot but im finding setting this thing is awkward. I undestand how to do it but IMO its not the best technique to get into the setup of a gyro. Tail holds fine but has a slight wag in the hover only (fine in FFF). Do these gyros have strong gains? Any tips/pointers on this gyro?
Its attached to a friends Clone 500 and im asking on his behalf really. Mounted with 2 thick pads with metal plate inbetween as per their instruction manual. I did recommend he changed one of the thick pads for a thin one as per Spartan gyro instructions but i dont think this is causing his issue.

I had to up the response and the heading hold lock Lee to get anything like the hold I was expecting. This really crisped the tail up. I also had to move the ball in on the servo horn in order to get the limit setting to work. Standard supplied foam and it seems to work fine.

I have to admit I really like the setup method, the only thing I would like to see is the parameter description next to the led. It's a sod to keep having to refer to the instructions.

The 502C is 333hz so you have to change from the default to R4. The linked instructions above are not correct for the 502c.

Dont you think how you setup the limits is a tad weird? Also is there ever a possibility that this thing could go into setup routine in flight? I mean holding the rudder stick for 3 seconds in HH whilst keeping the heli still seems very odd to me? What stops it from doing this in flight.

Setting the limits does seem a bit odd, but it works so I'm not so fussed. As for going into setup mode in flight, if you're holding full rudder for 3 seconds in flight and the heli isn't moving I think you have bigger problems lol

Just odd way of getting into the setup if ya ask me... would a brown out not trip this feature to operate though? Ive known people to recover from these but if it tripped the setup theyd have no chance.

I want my heli to always stay in the exact same spot without moving in the event of a brown-out. Somehow I'm not sure that's going to be the case.

Not with you there like but everyone that seen this feature at teh club had very similar thoughts. Now of course the heli wouldnt stay in the same place if it had a brownout but my question was could this trip the gyro into setup mode? A FBL heli would have no chance but i have seen people recover (thanks to the quick connect feature on Spektrum RX's) from brownouts and wondered if this could kick off the setup in the gyro?

As I understand it the Gyro will only enter setup mode if the stick is held full rudder for 3 seconds, and during that 3 seconds the heli is completely stationary. That being the case you won't be able to enter setup mode in flight as the heli won't be stationary, even during a brown-out.

I am willing to accept being wrong on this, but I think I have it correct.

Have to agree with Lee on this one, very strange setup.

The gyro has no way of knowing if the heli is stationary or not so I can't for the life of me work out the relevance in setup. Still or stationary in this case would appear to be not moving the tail, which in itself is odd given that a three second left or right rudder has been commanded to put the gyro into setup.

Lee I've got a little job for you later

I don't understand, the gyro knows at least one axis of movement, rotation. So if it has full rudder input for 3 seconds, and no change in rotation has occurred I think it's safe to assume the heli isn't in the air.

Yes I know, and that's the page that is incorrect. The DS502C is a 1520us 333hz servo.
