  • Governor Dropping Out

Got a brand new fan-mounted governor in my new heli and it's giving me grief.

It manages the head speed and responds to different settings via switch on the Tx, but every now and then the throttle just goes to tick-over for a few seconds before coming back on line. It's a bit disconcerting!

There are no problems with the governor turned off - throttle works perfectly on curves only with no hiccups.

Heli has a plastic fan and an analogue throttle servo. The servo has been used before with a similar governor in another heli with no problems.

There is a sensible clearance between the magnet and the sensor when the heli is static on the bench, although there is sign of some contact from scratch marks on the shinny magnet.

Any thoughts? Fan warping maybe under certain conditions?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the throttle end points. I was a little lazy on the throttle setup and didn't set the throttle for equal throw and just used end-points to pull it in. The result was an offset which confused the governor.

From memory, the endpoints are 100 and 95 with about 10-20 points of sub trim to pull the centre right, so well within acceptable limits I think. I could get rid of the sub-trim by adjusting the length of the push rod, but I don't think my numbers are far enough out to cause a problem there. You never know though.

Mine was a lot further out than that, but can't remember exactly how much. Went back and set it all up correctly and the problem went away. It's a bit disconcerting when your heli is 20' up in the air and suddenly goes back to idle!!

my x50 with the gv1 has had no contact with the sensor and magnets
          the throttle is set 100/100
and no problems in the engine/gov dept

anyone tried the green canopy yet? if so can it be seen better than the std x50b one?

As I was writing my previous post, I realised that 100 and 95 with 20 sub trim actually means maybe 120 and 75 endpoints, which is outside of the range that most governors like to operate, so maybe I should look at that again.

whenever i set a throttle servo up i have the servo arm and throttle arm ball at the same distance from the centre of the arm
i leave the rod dis-connected at one end and get the rod length correct for 100/100 on the epa
i've not yet had to ofset the ball spacing to get 100/100
