Three Weeks In and my first Crash

It had to happen.

Just doing a bit of hovering and I dont know what happened but it made a funny noise and bang fell to the floor

Main blade grips damaged
Rotor blades damaged
Fly bars bent
Flybar control arm snapped
Main drive shaft bent

Tail boom hit by rotors and wrecked
Tail Boom Supports Bent
Tail casing split
Tail shaft slightly bent
Rudder push rod bent
Canopy slightly cracked

Oh great joy !

Now choices are, buy a new shuttle kit or fix it :-) Currently bidding on ebay for a bunch of spares !

I think maybe when I fitted the new tail etc I might have had the belt too tight or something but the rotor blades made a real dent in the boom.

I dont think I did anything it just sort of locked mid air, will post pics shortly

Sorry to hear the news...atleast the damage was only focused towards the rear. I've had plenty of boom strikes in my raptor days, now I prefer to total the heli's completely and cost 3 times as much. 8O

FIRST CRASH

HI Dabba
A crash is all part of the great experience know as Helicoptery --- it's a cycle --- Buy ready built -- fly -- crash -- repair -- fly -- crash -- repair -- and so on.
The secret is to learn from the crash cycle not to make the same mistake again.
The other trick is make the time lapse between repair and crash as long as humanly possible.

Hi Dave.
I was very happy with my progress and thought after a couple of mild hiccups that I was over the worst and that I could look forward to just enjoying and flying my helli's (thats what I told my wife).Now you have put a bloody great spanner in my works, and from now on I will be too terrified of the next crash to lift the bugger off the ground.I am already living in the shed and If I bring another helli home damaged it will be a tent in the garden,please tell me you were only joking.

I spent the night going over how it happened and conclude the blade holders must have been too loose as I was out learning how to fly backwards and trying to do side on hovering and the heli was coming towards me tail in but was moving across the field at a faster pace than i would have liked, as it got closer it was at quite an angle I then gave some right stick and bang she fell to the floor and the tail had been chopped off.

Stuart I did not get he HH working :-(

I think I might nip out today and get me a hornet or something to play with before I go smashing up the shuttle again !

I'm joking - if that's what you want me to say, but the reality is different - knowone know's how long the cycle lasts so I repeat -- the trick is to learn from the mistakes quickly then the length of time between incidents will increase.
As your skills in flying - maintaining - an ability to spot early signs of failure in the mechanics/radio develope then there is no reason for the cycle ever to close the loop.

I scare a lot of people but your frightening me with talk of Hornets. That road is not the way to go Electric heli's are more expensive in the long run.
It's well proven the entry level 30 size Heli is the cheapest way to master this hobby.
What's not easy to master is the Bank Manager or her in doors.

Hi Dabba.
I can vouch for what G-DAVE has advised, I started on what I believed would be the best approach by attempting to learn with indoor, and outdoor, electric helli's, the money it cost me in breakages was astronomicle.Just take Dave's good advice and stick to the 30 size and you could end up with enough money left in your pocket at the end of the week for a bag of sweets, that might not sound much, but is far better than taking out another mortgage on the house.

Have to agree with the hornet replies, these heli's are great for indoors but are expensive to maintain and so sensitive you'll have an even steeper hill to climb.

Repair the shuttle get a Gy240 or CSM420 or 560 and get back in the air.

Every crash is like having your legs ripped off, the last one I had was watching my old Fury eat dirt when then engine cut on my when doing an auto but with the wind blowing away from me I didn't hear it and on releasing the throttle hold to go into normal power I pushed the pitch right up and watched the blades grind to a halt and a 1000.00 heli fell 50ft like a brick.

300.00 and a week later I was back in the air, Misses went bannana's :roll: I think she'd hoped that that was the end of my Sunday outings.

Feather Shaft - 8.25

Small dent in boom, will replace with Carbon next month its flyable
Main blades 69.99
Landing gear 11.00

Reason........lockout at 10ft its all in bits now ready for new parts

Cost is about 110.00

Milli was on slow 8's low and turning back towards me just about to level out the heli locked up and went into its pre-set condition...engine idle , -1 & level swash. It was like watching it all in slow motion.....

Canopy which was only just painted bright yellow only has a few scratches I'll re-paint it this week.

The only difference in the heli this week versus last week was new carbon frames on the lower sections and carbon boom braces all of which are in perfect condition.

If I was only a few feet higher it would have come out of lock and I would have got it down.

Im very impatient and after my post i went out and bought a hummingbird CP .
I can see what you guys meant this thing is rubbish and so flimsy.
Im gonna take it back to the shop I have broken the blades on it and that was setting it up let alone flying it !

I took the hummer back and picked up some other bits.
Nice shiny xtr reflex and a tail mount for the rudder servo.

Soon I shall be back in the sky nitro style :-)

Will i be able to use a hummingbird in my garage? I have tried with my nexus when its raining or to windy but it gets to loud and mummy complains about the smell getting into the house,

Yes you can hover in the garage just make sure the space ship is parked outside you don't want to damage the silicone tiles .
