For the price the mcpx would be a better option, SR's are renowned for burning out tail motors quickly. There are mods available to convert to belt, but at the cost you would be better off getting a 250 clone.

        Tail Rotors

I have also heard that the tail rotors are not exactly robust . I was in the middle of reading up on the topic and arrarently there is an e-book by J.Salt which goes through the details of setting up an msr and 120sr.

Don't get a sr, I had no end of problems with 2 in 1 gyro and tail motor. Once it was all sorted , if you pushed the throttle stick up to fast, the tail wouldn't react quick enough to stop the heli spinning during the rapid climb.
            In my opinion it's pants.

              Tail Blow Out

Tail Blow Out (TBO) does seem to be an issue but in J.salt's e-book he stares that because of their low weight TBO is not a s big an issue with the msr and 120 as it can be on larger helis. He also suggest some changes that can be made to the throttle curve settings on the TX

I am by no means an expert and was looking into getting an blade msr or 120 myself .

I also read in Model Helicopter World about the MCP-X. It just seems that technology is really taking hold in the world of Remote Control models and everything is reducing in size. Has anyone used it yet ?

MCP-X, ideal for what you want it for - have a trawl through the MCP-X topics.
