  • Supertec servo gears help

    Hi Guys,
Does anybody know if the gears from a Supertec JP servo S09CL/2BB will fit a Supertec JP servo S19HPXN/2BB servo as I have stripped the gears in a crash.

The main gear on the 85T gear stripped on my Raptor 50 Titan. I nearly managed to land with minimum damage but as the heli touched down it went over, broke the main blades, bent the boom the usual feathering shaft and flybar.
    Dam more expense......!!!!!

I only ask the question as I have a spare S09CL but I'm not sure if it is suitable to use in place of the S19PXN so I was going to just change the gears

    Thanks

    Dave

The servos are similar but not the same in spec. I know people say not to use different servos on cyclic but I have done it as an experiment and there was no problem for me doing basic hovering and the replacement servo was a 2Kg compared to a 1Kg. I think you may have to be very good to notice the difference in performance. That was on a CCPM 120 degree head. I think you should be able to use your old servo as it stands with just a check to make sure the swash stays level from min to max cyclic. That should be correctable from the tx if there is a difference in throw. I don't think I'd use gears from an old servo even if they did fit, they might have worn in to the old servo. There seems a good chance though that the manufacturers would have stayed with the same gears. Why not buy new ones?

      Thanks

Thanks Nigel for that, but when your "pushing the envelope" as much as me and "givin it a shoein" as you say, crashes are inevitable and it gets a bit expensive. You know that from when you where new kid on the block and thought it was easy lol............!!!!!

Anyway have you got any main blades you want to sell? or do you know any that are going cheep?

By the way what does "bump" mean?

          Cheers

Using different servo's on a raptor won't make a huge difference unless you have converted it to eCCPM. The raptor uses mechanical mixing so basically you want a servo with decent torque on the pitch & decent servo's on the rest but they do not have to be matched (ie. Same age, type etc).

No need at all to match the servos then. Sorry I assumed you had a 120 degree swash with the mixing done in the tx. I don't know what torque you need on the one you want to replace, but the spare servo is about the same spec as the old one, so if the old one was ok so should the new one. If you stripped gears though it might mean better gears or servos would be a good investment, unless it was a really good crash.

Thanks guys for your help, for the moment I have replaced the servo but I think I will look at buying a better quality one but at least I will be able to fly this weekend. I,ve spent the afternoon rebuilding and what had happened was that the bottom starter shaft bearing was worn and the 10T pinion was also worn which ment it was wobbling about in the bearing not good..... Anyway replaced all the bits even replaced the side frames as they had seen better days. we will see what happens this weekend.

                Cheers
