  • Lipo charging question

    Hi all
My battery charger is a gt power 606

    GT Power A606 Dual Charger

I charge at 1c and use the balance program, so for the 3s 2200mah 11.1v lipos the settings are 2.2 amp and 3s 11.1v. When I plug in a used lipo, the volt are just above 11.1v and the amps begin at 2.2 and gradually reduce to 0 when it's fully balance charged.

The charger will charge up to 6 amps and for my 6s 5000mah batts, I have set 5.0amps and 22.2v but when I connect batteries, the amps don't go above 2.2

I don't understand, shouldn't they go up to 5.0 amps and reduce to 0 when charged?

This was discussed in another similar thread earier today. Your charger has a maximum power output or 50W which means that for a reasonable capacity 2s pack it will be able to charge at the higher rate, but the more cells you charge the max' current available will drop.

        You're using a 50W charger so at 25 volts it'll only supply 2A........

You have to read the small print. I was looking at an advert for a charger and the picture showed the charger set to max amps and max volts. It certainly won't work at those values. Perhaps there should be a sticky on choosing chargers just giving the usable charge rates for different size batteries.

Lots will recommend the powerlab 8 if you have the funds, but you have to remember if you get a bigger more powerful charger, then you need a more powerful psu also

Had a long think following advice, thought about what I need and due to funds a bit tight, have plumped for one of these

                    Lipro Quad 6 Balancer Charger

chargers 1 to 4 batteries simultaneously, up to 6S. Ok it takes around 80mins but I get 4 lipos - 4 times quicker than my current charger

Does what I need and got it cheaper at my LMS
